Pink covers Adam Lambert for Greatest Hits album

Pink’s “Greatest Hits… So Far” album comes out next month, and features a collection of her biggest hits, as well as new track “Raise Your Glass”.

The album features all the hit Pink tracks you’d expect, but it also includes what some are considering a strange choice – a cover of Adam Lambert’s Whataya Want From Me (only on the Australian version though).

Pink did write the track, but never released it and instead gave it to American Idol legend Adam to use. She has performed it on tour though. Introducing the song, Pink said: “So I wrote this really silly song, and then I found a guy that could sing it way better than me, so it became his. Now I’m gonna sing it.”

props to pink, but adam's version of this song is a billion times better.
especially the acoustic version he performs on tour. its such a special moment between him and the audience.
i feel like this performance is a typical tour performance.
adam doesn't have a SINGLE typical performance. they're all AMAZING <3

don't think she should be putting it on her greatest hits album since she hasn't had a hit with it. She didn't want the song, so gave it to Adam, he made it into a worldwide hit, so now she decides she wants it back. Doesn't seem quite right to me. Still, suppose it won't make any difference to me seeing as I won't be buying her album anyway.

@HKfan,Icouldn't agree more!

But do you think may be this could give Adam a lil more exposure to her fans? Pink is Big in Europe, esp England and France. And those are two of the largest music markets in the world.

not cool. It's like saying Adam sang it but it's her talent and her song and her hit. It's not like Carole King coming out of relative obscurity to claim her songs. Adam is still trying to come up, it's his only hit so far, and Pink is established. Not classy.

I don't think it's cool either. Adam has acknowledged time and time again that Pink wrote the song, and he has expressed so much thanks to her for the oppotunity. He did make the song what it is today! His version is emotional and powerful.

Sure, it's her right, but was it the right thing to do? No, I don't think so. She has made mention of the FACT that he sings it better, so why is she using the song in concert and on her recording? Yes, we love you Pink, and we love that you--like others--gave Adam a great song. Bet you don't see MUSE putting Soaked on their album, and Matthew Bellamy would do a great job with his voice. It's just not classy Pink.

It is Pink's song she wrote it...love hearing the writer's voice and the way they interpret their own song...Who says that she can't sing and release her song? Props to her!

P.S I am a huge Adam fan but, don't you think that we get a little, perhaps, sensitive to anything related to Adam sometimes? and I don't mean to offend anyone by this... not my intention

LLM @8:30 I think the issue is her putting on HER greatest hits album.

Anonymous said...

it's his only hit so far --> IIHY is a hit as well, not as big as WWFM, but it's a hit--> he has not been in the USA to promote it and has not performed it live since May 2010. It went top 40 on the pop and BB Hot 100 chart

Anonymous said...

cont'd...Granted, I love Pink and I think this is Jive doing this --> WWFM as huge in Australia and including this on the CD will only increase interest and sales --> don't be shocked if US radio picks it up. Here's hoping RCA releases Sleepwalker

Anonymous said...

cont'd...Also, IIHY has charted in multiple countries and went top 5 in Australia, so the Aussies like Adam, and not just for WWFM...IIHY is certifed platinum in Australia

Anonymous said...

cont'd I repeat, IIHY is a hit for Adam...moderate, but still a hit...it's his 3rd single, so that's really good for him and I think he now knows what kind of songs will work for him...

Hmmm I kinda adore pink. I loved her before adam...i do think its odd, but only in Australia right?

don't know, don't know...I wish maybe she would have put adams single on hers, that way they both would be making money..

but ultimately its her song, u guys r gonna have 2 except the fact she can do what ever she wants with it..so im just gonna ignore it.

I love dem both.

8:03 YES! With you all the way. There's a reason songs are copyrighted. It's her perogative, and I'm sure Adam will wish her well.

Didn't she co-wrote it with Max Martin? Why Max Martin agreed to this? I am totally against it. WWFM isn't her greatest hit. Adam made it a hit. It's like Ryan Tedder to include Halo and bunch of other songs he wrote and given them to other artists as part of his own greatest hits. That's just not right at all. She lost her credibility with me for sure. Now maybe for his next single he should release one of his own songs Aftermath, Broken Open, etc.

Anonymous said...

Max Martin had to agree to this or it would not be happening. Just more money for the songwriters...WWFM is such a great song that I can imagine US radio playing Pnks version and this version becoming a hit as well. I just hope Adam's next cd has an easier time at radio...but I admire IIHY's not dead yet attitude. US radio tired to kill this song all summer and it would not die and now it's a GOLD single and a hit. I think this proves that Adam has the chops for pop music/radio. US radio just needs to get it sooner than later. I still say Sleepwalker should be released, that song will slay...just as long as Ryan Tedder lets the song get about 5 years old...LOL...Pink is funny, but it's her song. If anything, Adam will have no beef because truth be told, WWFM saved his album and got him on the radio...IIHY has no shot at any success without WWFM. Still Adam made the song a hit and WW famous Global hit.

I think Pink should let it go,It has Adam Lambert signature on it, Looks like cheap immitation when Pink sings it. It looks bad for Pink. I love pink but this makes her look desperate,it is too wierd and so not like Pink, who even thought of such a stupid idea? It is almost suicide for pink's future. Stop the madness before it is too late for Pink's sake.Pink you are too smart and classy, don't let your label make mistake for you.

The difference between Adam Lambert & other artists, any artist, is that he brings the song, any song, to LIFE!!!! Adam Lambert has the MAGICAL touch!!!! Can't wait for his own words to come out in his own music, like "Broken Open"!! "The most beautiful song EVER, EVER!!" fan.
Now, if we can just get "Fever" out in the US, that's a #1 hit!!

Anonymous said...

Hmmm...not so much on the Pink performance of WWFM. She sings the words, but I didn't feel the heart. Strutting around just singing the words. Very unlike when Adam sings it. It's a personal message between Adam and his audience. "I'm a freak. Thanks for lovin me." *crowd goes crazy* Yes, true, it's her song. She wrote it. But honestly, I don't get why she would put it on her Greatest Hits.

As I remarked on another site ... is Pink putting other songs written by but not released by her on this Greatest Hits album?? Perhaps by Greatest Hits she means songs that SHE helped write as well as sings. My question is ... how does ADAM benefit by this if at all. I think it would only show how much BETTER the song is rendered by ADAM with his incomparable style & vocal finesse ... not so with Pink's version. THIS is ADAM's song ... no matter WHO wrote/performs it ... it is HIS!! ..JMO

I Like Pink and she's an amazing talent. Of course Adam sang it better and she gave him props for it. She wrote a great song about her relationship with her now husband [a great hit] and has every right to sing it and put it on her album. Everyone has heard Adam's version, identifies and knows his beautiful rendition of it. It just gives the song more exposure. Dolly Parton wrote the Whitney Houston hit "I Will Always Love You" and recorded it. Dolly always gave Whitney credit for singing it well. No one made an issue of it at all. What's the difference? She created it, Adam nourished it and made it blossom. It doesn't discredit or take anything away from Adam, on the contrary, it make us aware of how fine and superior Adam's version is and after all it is her baby to do whatever she chooses IMHO. funbunn40

I don't think it's right that Pink take back what she gave to Adam, but I am assuming that there must have been some agreement that she might still sing it. But to put it on her Greatest Hits CD? It wasn't one of her greatest hits in my opinion. I wouldn't be happy about it. I do love Pink, but don't agree with this one. I feel like she regretted giving it to Adam after he blew her away with it. Now, maybe they should sing it together. That would work! I would LOVE to hear that!

She can sing it as many times as she wants. Yes, it's her song. But to put it on her hit alum is stupid!!!! She never made it a hit. The only way she can do it is if Adam sings it!
Nit very nice pink. I am a fan. But this is not classy!!!!

I like pink but if she does this I will not buy it. If u feel the same, just don't support it. That's a statment already!!!

I think Pink made a bad decision. Adam made the song a hit and Adam made the terrific video which should have won an award. Pink looks bad trying to trump on Adam's success. Not to mention the fact that Adam is a newcomer in the business. It's just wrong Pink. That's my opinion.

The part I don't like is Pink saying:

'So I wrote this really silly song .....'

That sounds rather demeaning and obviously she didn't mind giving the song away at all. Well, she gave it to Adam and HE made it a mega hit! :) Furthermore, it is NOT a 'silly' song. It's a beautiful song. However, she did write the song and I guess she has the right to record it if she wants to though she could hardly call it one of HER greatest hits.

I thought she sang it well at that concert and it obviously suits her voice but Adam's version is truly divine. :)

I'm a fan of P!nk as well as Adam and I don't think it reflects well on P!nk to put WWFM on her "Greatest Hits" album. Singing it in concert is one thing but putting WWFM on this album says to me that she now regrets giving the song to Adam and is trying to recapture some of the glory associated with it. Adam always gave props to P!nk for writing WWFM. To me this move seems out of character for P!nk and not at all classy.

And remember what Randy Jackson said:
'Adam can sing a phonbook'

Anonymous said...

Well, it's her song. I don't think Adam would mind. Everyone knows he's the one who has made it a worldwide hit. But I think she did write it originally about her relationship with Corey Hart, so she's allowed to sing it. We allllll know that everyone wants a piece of anything Adam has touched these days...

May I suggest we ask WWAD (What Would Adam DO) ? From all that I have seen, read and heard from Adam, negativity and ill will just isn't within his personality. I highly doubt he would begrudge Pink the honor of recording her own song, especially when it's THE song (as mentioned by him many a time) that pulled his proverbial ass out of the shit-storm known as AMA-gate. Had he not had WWFM to so eloquently follow-up with, he may not have been given the opportunity to be touring right now.

No piles today please. I'm an Adam fan of the 1st class just reminding us that "it's not that deep".

Is there like a law or rule somewhere that says this is not allowed? Am I missing out on something here?

It's only a cover, not a single

Yep...WWFM saved Adam's album yall...Adam would be on the verge of a major flop as a debut artist if it was not for WWFM...that song started his post-Idol career, for real...radio did not take him seriously with FYE the single, the AMAs, the fanbase, what he did on Idol...radio thought he as a complete joke after the AMAs...WWFM changed that and got him respect as a serious artist...paved the way for more radio play--he has to work really hard still, but he is better off post-WWFM than if WWFM did not exist...I'm sure Adam would agree, WWFM saved his debut album era.

Reality is, I'm a triple Fire sign (Sag/Sag/Sag) and it's not within me to sugar-coat it or duck, but I really did get a kick out of your post.
