Adam confirmed that he's not in a relationship in a recent interview with a Hong Kong radio station.

"I don't have the time or energy to be in a relationship right now. I want to be focused on my career."

Adam must be referring to Harajuku, which is the common name for the area around Harajuku Station on the Yamanote Line in the Shibuya ward of Tokyo, Japan. Harajuku is also a large shopping district that includes luxury international designers, Harajuku native designers, and affordable shops catering to youths.

ADAM Lambert doesn't see himself as a role model.

'The word role model is so tricky to me. I'm a singer, I'm just being myself,' he said.

The American Idol runner-up set tongues wagging after a racy live performance on the American Music Awards (AMA) last year.

In it, he kissed a male keyboardist, grinded a dancer's head against his pelvis, and grabbed the crotch of another.

Speaking to reporters at a roundtable interview at the Ritz-Carlton here yesterday, the 28-year-old said he felt people were being too 'serious' about his performance at the show.

They were also putting too many expectations on him, he added.

'I'm not trying to set an example. I'm not trying to teach anybody anything. I'm just doing my thing,' said the performer.

He said he has tried to rise above the controversy surrounding the performance.

'I think ultimately, out of all of that, talent and intention are important and take precedence over controversy and shock,' he said.

Lambert performed a six-song acoustic set last night at the Pantages Hollywood Theater at Universal Studios Singapore.

Adam Lambert, 28, came second in the last series of American Idol. He then came out as gay and cause a stir with a saucy performance at the American Music Awards. Lambert releases single For Your Entertainment and an album of the same name next month.

What have been the highlights of the past year?
Performing on Idol was fun and singing with Queen in the finale was an honour. Getting on the cover of Rolling Stone, getting a record deal, releasing the album -- they've all been unbelievable.

You've had to justify your sexuality in American press interviews since Idol Does it irritate you?
A bit. It's not a big deal for me and I don't understand why it seems to be so significant for other people. There are benefits to being visible, not that many artists are openly gay, but there's also a responsibility that's been projected onto me.

Do you think attitudes are different in Britain?
America's a lot more conservative, for sure. I don't think my sexuality will be an issue internationally.

How did you manage to offend everyone at the American Music Awards?
I was performing For Your Entertainment, which is a little frisky, and some people thought I took it too far. I kissed a guy and there was some sexual choreography that got people going. Some people thought it was too in your face. As a viewer, I've been watching female performers express their sexuality on stage for more than 20 years.

You did a photoshoot with a model's boob in your mouth. What was that like?
It was the most action I'd had with a woman in a long time. I was fine with it, I like that sort of art. people said I was trying to act straight but it was just a photoshoot, not a statement on my life. There's all this homoerotic stuff in the media, I did herteroeroticism and got criticised for it.

Did you have a nice chat with her?
Yes, she was really sweet. French Canadian with a great accent. It was all in a day's work for her.

Have you got any crazy fans?
There are a few who take it a little far. I've had some fans sneak into a video shoot and one got hold of my cellphone number and wouldn't stop calling. Most are great.

Did you get anyone's autograph when you were younger?
No, I've never understood that mentality but I appreciate the support. Paula Abdul was the first pop star I saw in concert. I did a lot of musical theatre as a kid and was obsessed with showtunes. Then I got into Missy Elliott, Christina Aguilera, Britney, all the 1990s pop artists.

You're biologically ginger. Have you ever faced anti-ginger prejudice?
No, I haven't. I've been dyeing it for six years so it's been a while since I've had the real colour. You don't do rock'n'roll as a ginger.

If people are lacking purpose in life, would you advise them to take LSD?
Sure, it's one method of finding yourself. My trip led me to some epiphanies about who I was as a performer, what I wanted to do and how I needed to create my own opportunities. When I got home, I started writing music with other people and went to the Idol audition. The vision was about finding opportunities. I wasn't sitting in a desert in rave wear thinking about Simon Cowell when I was on acid.

What's the worst job you've had?
Singing in a topless show in a casino. It was a real low-grade production. The dudes weren't coming to hear me sing.

What been your worst moment on-stage?
The American Music Awards performance. I fell on to a metal staircase and hurt my knees but managed to cover it up. Most people didn't notice.

Maybe the viewers were distracted by you rubbing your crotch in the dancers faces.
Yeah, I suppose they had other things to worry about.

Adam Lambert may have ruined American Idol. Even the most hardcore Idol fans feel a sense of let down with this year's crop of average singers.

A year ago this week Lambert tore the house down with his version of Black or White.

This year, some of the Idol contestants are good, but no one - no one - can touch Adam Lambert.
Regardless of whether one likes Adam Lambert, it's safe to say that his stage presence and live performances blow away everyone on the Idol stage this season.

It's not even close. It's like the show's moving in slow motion without him.

Last season, Lambert elevated other average singers looking to keep pace with him. Kris Allen, the show's eventual winner, got better every week, largely because he was trying to keep pace.

Maybe Paula Abdul knew something when she left the show. Maybe Simon Cowell knows something now.
A guy by the name of Alex Lambert was eliminated from the show last night. Similarities to the true Lambert? Zero.
Adam Lambert left the show long ago.

And by the looks and sound of it, American Idol will never be the same.
