Go to Perez blog and tell him how much we love him (not) but we can mess with his head.

I got that one wrong, I thought for sure it was the palace. Pleasantly surprized at his answer however.

Aww..Adam I hope you can do just that sometime...I hope everyone here can see the vid..because I don't want to give anything away..but I love that Adam would like to hang out with the Obamas, have a beer, etc....He has said he admires President Obama. I saw this earlier on the ALF Facebook site..and most there guessed Buckingham Palace. Adam is full of surprises, when in reality it shouldn't surprise us at all. He's "non-politcal" but patriotic..Supports the troops..etc..requests to visit military bases, entertains troops and their families, sing the National Anthem, often with no publicity and none desired by him..... Again, what a fabulous man!

Buckingham Palace!

Again, off topic : ))) but really GREAT article from Popwatch "Adam Lambert - 'I'm Not Trying To Outdo Freddie Mercury'
By Dan Martin

[It really should be posted here as a thread topic....so informative....But if not, here it is:]

"When it was announced this week that former American Idol runner-up turned electro-glam peacock Adam Lambert would be fronting Queen at Sonisphere, the response was… fairly approving actually. Lambert has already proven himself as quite the able rock star, his pipes are undeniably impressive, and to be fair to him, he certainly embodies some of Freddie Mercury’s theatrical spirit.

And anyone who saw their trial run at the MTV EMAs last year will be able to testify that they pretty much pulled it off. If Queen really are going to continue in some form, there could be an awful lot worse choices. We caught up with Adam as the news broke, to see how he’s fitting into Freddie’s tight pants. He will not, he assures us, be growing a moustache...

So you are the new singer in Queen!
Adam:“Finally the cat’s out of the bag!"

You’ve played with them before, but how does it feel to be doing a full set?
Adam: “It’s a bigger undertaking for sure. I’m going tio learn a lot more music, rehearse with the band a little longer, but I’m excited! I’m excited to get in there and figure out what the setlist is. It’s gonna be a lot of work but it’s gonna be fucking great. I’m so excited!”

You’re standing in for possibly the greatest frontman ever…
Adam: “Yeah but you know, the way I look at it is I’m not trying too imitate him or outdo him or compete in any way, that’s not even in my mind at all, I think its really an honour to be asked to sing the music that the and the ban wrote and get up there and put on a good show. If people are too busy trying to compare they’re not going to enjoy the music.”

How are you psyching up?
Adam: “I haven’t gotten there yet. When we start crouching up to it a little bi more I’m gonna start feeling the pressure but I’m definietly starting to have the Queen playlist on repeat on my iPod for sure.”

What songs do you want to sing? And which ones don’t you?
Adam: “We really haven’t gotten there yet, I just was emailing Brian a week or two ago and I was asking him, ‘What’s the setlist gonna be?’ It’s gonna be a team decision, obviously Brian and Roger are the boss, so whatever they wanna do I’m up for, I’m just happy to be there.”

That’s no answer! Which are your favourites?
Adam: “I’m really excited to perform ‘Another One Bites The Dust, that’s one of my favourites. I’m interested to see if we’ll be doing ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and whatever capacity it is, it’s quite a vocal undertaking with all the parts, so I don’t know if they’re gonna be other vocalists onstage or what. That’ll be pretty intense, to see how we approach that one.”

How did they tackle that before, I wonder?
Adam: “I think the guys sang back up obviously the recorded the backgrounds in the studio, they multi-tracked everything so much that I wonder if they’re gonna consider bringing in background singers to give it the kind of energy that the record has. I don’t know, I’m just excited to get to fly to the UK and rehearse with Queen.”

How did the conversations leading up to this go?
Adam: “When we did the EMAs it was just a lovely experience, it was smooth as silk, I walked in, we did an afternoon rehearsal, pretty much nailed it and felt really good about it, did a soundcheck the next day and then it was the EMAs. We were talking after and I said, ‘You know, anytime you guys have anything, I’d love to sing with you again, and it felt mutual, I think the seed was planted there.”

End Part 1..on to Part 2 (continued..below)

Part 2..of Popwatch article

Did you need any persuasion or were you like, ‘you had me at Hello’?
Adam: “The minute the offer was extended I jumped at the chance. But one of the things that was said was, ‘He’s gonna be the permanent frontman of Queen'. And although that would be a beautiful experience, the tricky thing this year for me is I also have my album coming out, ‘Trespassing’, and that’s gonna take a lot of work and time and energy. So it’s really a one-off experience with the band, and I’m really excited for it. But I’m not joining the band and touring with them.”

Are you familiar with the British heavy metal scene? Even Queen is quite an out there booking for Sonisphere
Adam: “Well Kiss is the other headliner, and Faith No More. I think they’re doing a nostalgic classic rock look for the festival and I think that’s fantastic. Hey, I sang a Metallica song on my tour two years ago in New Zealand. I did ‘Enter Sandman’, it was really fun. But I think it’s funny the way genre is trapped on to certain artists and it’s treated like some boundary that you can’t cross or redefine and it’s kind of silly."

Are you familiar with bottling?
Adam: “No, I apologise, I’m not that familiar with the festival.”

It’s when metal fans don’t like you and they throw bottles filled with urine at the stage.

Adam: "Oh great! Well I’ll be sure to wear something that protects my helmet. I wear a helmet on stage, maybe that would be a good fashion statement.

And they shout ‘You Fat Bastard’
Adam: “Well it’s possible! Heheh, the way I look at is I want to get up there to sing great sings for people who want to hear them. I deal with a lot of pressure here with my career in the States on Idol there was a lot of pressure and now with my second album, I’m used to pressure so at this point I’m going to focus on the positive reactions and ignore the negative ones.”

What do you say to people who reckon the Queen legacy should be left alone?
Adam: “That’s really up to Brian and Roger, it’s their band. I think that at this point the feel what they’re doing is appropriate and it's their prerogative. If someone feels like their legacy should be left alone then they're missing out on a great concert, that’s the bottom line, the guys write great music and they’re playing it for fans that still wanna hear it. It’s their band! It’s their business.”

Can you really call this Queen without John Deacon involved?
Adam: “Again that’s not my place to say, that’s Mr Deacon’s business, it’s not mine. Of course having the original bass player there would be amazing, don’t get me wrong , but that’s just not the situation. I don’t mean to sound defensive and I totally understand and respect that opinion. But that’s no fun!”

Do you think it can ever work as well with a new singer?
Adam: “It’s just different. Nothing is gonna beat the original, no-one’s ever going to be better than Freddie Mercury, never. But I don’t think that’s the point, I don’t think it’s a competition, it’s about music and it's about making people feel something, it’s not about beating out the original.”

How are you going to channel Freddie? Are you studying the DVDs?
Adam: “I’m definitely listening to the vocal parts and I have been doing research, I’ve been watching things, but it’s very important for me as an artist for my own integrity to make sure I’m being myself onstage. I have no intention of mimicking or copying or… I feel like that would be insulting to the fans and to the band to get up there and try to copy Mr Mercury. It’s a very delicate situation and I wanna treat it with with the utmost respect. For me it’s about trying to understand his initial intention vocally and musically, and pay respect to that. With the help of Brian and Roger I think that would be easier for me to accomplish.”

Part 3 of Popwatch Article....

The other hot rumour about a future for is a tour with Lady Gaga. Is there anything in that?

Adam: "I know nothing about it, I did hear something about her mixed with the band’s name. I’m a huge fan, I think she’s fabulous but I don’t know about any collaboration. I think she’s a busy lady! I don’t know if she’s got time on her schedule. If she wants to come onstage and sing, I’d be down!

Have you thought about your moves? And your outfit?
Adam: “Moves? For me unless it’s a sequence with actual dancers I don’t really plan that shit. I feel like my moves are pretty organic, it just kind of comes. And what to wear, I haven’t figured it out yet, I’ve been thinking about working with a designer to create something original and special for the night. Something that’s just theatrical enough but just cool enough.”

Thank you, glitzylady. I think "this is a tricky situation" for Adam and there were very tricky questions in this interview. Adam responded on these questions perfect (as usual)

Anonymous said...

yay I guessed The White House!! He has never been there that's why I picked it.If he had been there I would have picked Buckingham Palace. Fun game.

Anonymous said...

I visualize some day when Adam will be asked to sing at the White House for a President, just like B.B. King and Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney have done (and others). What a deserved honor that would be. What a cool and courageous President that would be!

And glitzlady, thanks so much for the article! It is posted elsewhere, but it's so clear and easy to read here. Adam can handle anything! Takes guts to do this gig. Takes courage to face the kind of stuff that Adam faces every day. Takes a brave guy to try to further his career when he faces pre-conceived notions about himself by many people, even if they're incorrect. He's strong-willed and committed and not easily intimidated. In whatever way the audience remembers this next Queen performance, it WILL be remembered. Rock history will document it and it will live.

Sorry to get so serious, but I think too many people still think of Adam as a "light-weight" without the chops to hold his own in the big-time. One Brit guy referred to him as "that talent show runner-up" and that "kid." Each time he faces this adversity and gets up there and sings his heart out, he's showing the world that he can't be scared off.

The White House all the way! Can you imagene some folks complaining about Pres. Obama singing a few bars the other nite along with BB King (fabulous) and Mick Jagger? Like Adam, our president can do nothing right in some eyes. @Anon 12:54 - thanks for the link. I just signed on and hope the program managers listen. ... Adamluv

Probably both, but I think that Buckingham Palace would be a real high. Perhaps he will get an invite while in London. The current administration is staying very neutral on LGBT issues, and apparently letting Gaga be the spokesperson, which is something I do not understand as she is not gay and can hardly actually speak to these issues.

ok Southern California fans please do what 12:54 asked. That really is big!! Spread the word to others. Remember be polite (2nd nature for a glambert)and only once.

I picked the Palace when I saw this the other day, thought because Adam loves London and its history...the next question is, what would he do without first, his hair gel or eyeliner???
mmmm, I think eyeliner.

What happened to the come to my house comments . . . thought they were cute....don't understand . . you let the trolls say cruel things and don't remove their comments.

Not the palace, already saw the public rooms there. It's like a museum and you would not be meeting any of the royal family, just marching through. Def the White House , it's a home and you never know when a family member may show up with Bo in tow. A friend of mine lives near Arlington(her husband was a crew member on Air Force One who just recently retired). She is a teacher and took her class on a W.H. tour.As they were leaving Mrs. Obama showed up with oatmeal cookies for everyone and gave each child a hug.
That's my kind of family in the White House! I'm with you, Adam!

Oh no! Anon 2:40 is back with the all caps! No Rick Perry endorsement this time? And did you mean to say "shoot president now" because "shot" doesnt make sense. And if you did, wow - you're sicker than you've ever been.... Adamluv

Yea Adam wanting to meet the Obama's. Shows how intelligent and enlightened he is... The interview was a bit snarky, but that's the Brits for you. Adam stayed the course in fine form as usual. Love the man and his politics and, of course, his beautiful voice. Adam will be Adam and do Freddie Adam style. Can't wait for those fans to hear!!

what interview? I thought this was just a game question to see how well the fans knew Adam. It is just for fun!! geeesh.

Adam should visit Buckingham Palace and hang out with the QUEEN!! :<

Anonymous said...

I wonder if PERHAPS Adam will join Queen as their lead singer AFTER he has toured in concert with his Trespassing album. O_;

Anonymous said...

No he won't. Roger and Brian are in their 60's their touring days are winding down, just special appearances occasionally, hopefully some of them will include Adam. Adam is a solo artist . Period .

Anonymous said...

Adam would do well to visit Buckingham Palace and have an audience with the Queen. It would do wonders for his popularity in the UK. :)

If Adam were a Brit, he might indeed join the other musical Knights i.e. Sir Elton John, Sir Cliff Richard, Sir Tom Jones, Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Mick Jagger, Sir Bob Geldof. Mmmmmmm, Sir Adam Lambert sounds mighty fine to me!! :)

Anonymous said...

You are assuming that Queen Elizabeth is wildly popular in the UK. Not necessarily. Meeting the Queen is not a step into fame. Neither is a knighthood, which of course Adam would not qualify for.
The Queen is very insular, usually has no idea who the people are she's greeting in receiving lines.
Adam would do better meeting Prince William or better yet, Prince Harry!

Funny note about the Queen. A member who married into the family complained they were going blind because she (the Queen) ordered only 40 watt bulbs in the personal apartments of the palace!

Anonymous said...

If Adam were BRITISH, why would he not qualify for a knighthood? For sure, he'd need to be very successful in his music career and he's well on his way in achieving that, and he already supports charities. In any event, he'd be joining excellent company if he were knighted. He wouldn't be an outsider because Sir Elton John is gay. Anyway, nice to dream about!

The Queen of England is entitled to use whatever size light bulbs she wishes! And all being well, she'll be 86 this year. I'm not a rabid monarchist but I believe the royal family deserve respect.

@ Anon 9:35 PM

Are you an American citizen? Do you know ANYTHING about our government? Obviously not! Why should Adam be for Bill Clinton?
He's not running for President, he's already had two terms, that's it, he can't run again. President Obama was legally elected, It's Pres. Bush who wasn't! Look it up,there's your fraud! The Supreme Court of the USA and the forever fouled up Supreme Court of the state of Florida gave him his first term as President.

There was a discrepancy and a recount in Florida. Before it was over they declared Bush the winner. Later it was dicovered that
Al Gore had more votes!. So we got Bush and 2 useless wars. President Obama is left with the financial ruin and lack of respect for our country that the last 8years before he took office caused.
Before you shoot your mouth off, make sure it's aimed at the right target.Your target is hiding in an armadillo hole in Texas.

@ 7:47 pm

IF Adam were British he could be knighted. Since he isn't he could receive an honorary knighthood. No kneeling, no tap on the shoulder with a sword and no title (Never Sir Adam).

And I have the utmost respect for Queen Elizabeth since we share common ancestors back to 5th century and up to current Earl of Pembroke.
