Hey, how did I miss the JAK rant? Where I the Dallas thread? Can't find it. Please help!

I think that in the UK, they pronounce the "uck" in "cuckoo" like the word "luck." We say it more like "koo-koo." I thought the two of them had a good time joking about it. Adam's good at that.

That was cute, now I want an accent like Chris.

Just wanted to say that I found JAK's rant on the Dallas link. YES! YES! YES! I have sometimes thought that Adam cannot succeed without the teen fanbase. But the more I think of it, the more I see that as today's teens grow into their 20s, 30s, etc., they will grow INTO Adam, not OUT of Adam the way they might grow OUT of Bieber, etc. Adam got fame in his late 20s, already a seasoned adult performer. I can see how most teens don't get him. I'm sure Adam and his management have had discussions about just who his fanbase is. It's really across the board, from teens on up. Maybe teens are kind of afraid of him. There's the sexuality thing, of course. Some teens say that their parents won't LET them listen to Adam's music. He's very sophisticated and smart-sounding, unlike many younger singers. I think we older fans simply have impeccable taste. We see someone who is a huge cut above the average pop star.

I think Adam and his mgmt. know that he will never have the teen fanbase. But like JAK said, I think teens will grow up and discover him and grow up with him and, (dare I say it?) grow old with him. When many pop stars have faded, Adam will be a mature, successful singer for decades. His theater experience and depth of talent will carry him forward for a long time. We "mature" fans are helping establish him. Look at his connections with the celebrity world already. He's part of the "in" crowd. Thanks for your insights, JAK!

OT - Adam just tweeted to KA that he thinks his new song is great. I NEVER see any reciprocal tweets from KA. Adam is way too nice. He should do like all the others and only promote his own stuff like crazy on twitter (and maybe songs of his friends).

OT. I wondered why we hadn't heard anything from Sauli, in his blog he wrote that his sisters had come out to visit him. I may be wrong, but I wondered if Adam arranged this, knowing he was going to be working for a few weeks. Last year Sauli had a very close friend visit him while Adam was away at this time.Sauli is taking them to all the tourist Sauli said they had not had a vacation together in 10 years. If Adam had anything to do with it, it might have been his birthday gift to Sauli, which is this month.

5:02 -- That may the case in the US but around the world, it's a different story. Many countries' teens love Adam Lambert and his songs.

Anonymous said...

5:53, You're absolutely right, and thank God for that! Teens in other countries really embrace him so much more than in the U.S. He really markets himself overseas, too. Smart guy!

Nice to hear that Sauli is busy with his sisters. Saw a pic of him with his sisters and Leila at a restaurant. She seems to love him, too. Good timing for their visit. Probably planned because of Adam's promo tour.

I know lots of teens that like Adam and I think when he puts out a dancey top 40 track he will gain even more. About Adam's sweet tweet to Kris Allen praising his song, yeah no one gives Adam much praise. Where was Kris to praise Adam when BTIKM came out. The so called good christian boy next door. Sorry to sound rude but Adam is the most unselfish kind and giving person!

Oh and to add to my above post , the cuckoo going back and forth with the accent had me laughing in tears!

@ GGD Gal and @ DRG

JAK here...........About my rant, you know sometimes you just feel a little crabby! Old people are like that! :))))
I was much more cheerful after my nap and dared to invite my tame lion into my den. I was feeling brave and daring. I had him sit on side of my bed and put on earphones and I said "No eyerolling, no talking, no "faces", just listen....." I played the Mazda thread Outlaws of Love for him. Then I said "So??"
He agreed it was beautiful and Adam's voice was astounding. Then he said, "he would have been on TV every week in the 60's, probably with his own show, but definitely guesting." " Merv Griffin Show, Sonny & Cher, Carol Burnett, Ed Sullivan, Dinah Shore, Andy Williams, Perry Como, Dean Martin, just about every variety and music show, except maybe HEE HAW!"
Then he said "can I leave now?"

He'll probably never listen to another of Adam's songs, but he didn't struggle, so he was a good sport. He's a cool jazz guy and there will be no converting...................... "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink!"

Funny,we here in NZ say cuckoo not cookoo. think because our heritage is more english, not American. It sounds so cute how Adam says it.
I have noticed strange things with the way we pronouce things and how they are in th states.A few threads back they were talking of the Mazda car and it was pronounced Marzda we say Maazda. Same with Vietnam and Vietnarm. so we tend to go the opposite. Sorry OT useless info.
Adam sounds great in all these interviews, just love him more everyday, But still dont know why the video isnt on our itunes or music channels and it is driving me crazy.

Brits pronounce "cuckoo" as in "cook", the same way as Aussies pronounce it or do Americans pronounce "cook" as "coooook"??? It's not pronounced the same way as "luck".

Thought this interviewer could've spent more of the time Adam had with him discussing BTIKM and Trespassing plus his upcoming gigs with Queen instead of chatting about Xtina.

Cook as in book, not as in loop.

Those 137 colour photos of Adam are MAGNIFICENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HK fan said...

@anon 3.37pm
No, he didn't have a hard time pronouncing cuckoo, he said it perfectly....its Adam that said it wrong!!!!
(and yes I am a Brit, and yes, that was said tongue in cheek before anyone gets their knickers in a twist..)

But the DJ did pronounce it as all British people would, as in the bird, or cuckoo clock etc. coo coo (how Adams says it means do-lally or crazy)

Anonymous said...

You say tomawto, I say tomato. There's no wrong or right about this. Regional accents are like that. No biggie and they did have a lot of fun with it.

Re: the age of Adam's fans - it's all about exposure. In non-Idol countries it's the youngsters. In Idol countries, Adam has a huge contingent of older fans because our musical taste has been shaped over time and we get all of the amazing influences in his music. That's why so many musicians like him, too. It's also why the Brit DJ's are into songs like Tresspassing. The song has roots.

I firmly believe that, with exposure, Adam will appeal to almost everybody (like Michael Jackson did.) There were quite a few kids under 10 at the Glam Nation concerts I went to. Their parents brought them and, over time, Adam will be come to them what Xtina is for him.

In the meantime, every fan Adam has is important. Not to mention that a lot of the Adam voters and bloggers are "of a certain age" and keeping us all in touch with each other every day. No fly-by-night tweeters, we.

Other stars should be so lucky.

HK fan I think the crazy coocoo is what the song is about, form what I gather from Adam's interviews.

Anonymous said...

6:25 -- I also agree that 'good crazy' is what Adam was hinting the song was about; that we are all at some point a bit coocoo!! And he's right!!!
