This such a worthwhile event ....I love the costumes and the people ...,I had not heard of this event before Adam brought to our attention .... so I guess I forgive the ones who didn't know Adam.... this time anyway....rose petal

AIDS touches people of all kinds aroud the world, but the gay community has been particularly devastated by it. These people at the Life Ball are strong and fearless and amazing and are working to help solve the problem. And, yes, JAK, the costumes and AMAZING!!! Vive la difference!!

@ DRG....JAK here....my eye is always drawn to costumes and any fashion display. I've mentioned that my mom was a dressmaker....well, she made creations like these. She worked wherever we lived for local opera companies.......
Can you imagine how much fun it was for me to have trunks of crystals, beads, chiffon, tulle, satin, velvet, sequins, etc. in what I considered "my" dress up boxes? After our nomadic military years of constant moving, we settled in to a beach community and mom and I designed for fancy schmancy beach boutiques.....only now it was Hawaiian prints, Indian silks and African batik fabrics! Heaven for a teenage girl. She made all my clothes....those were exotic years....nothing style wise was off limits! I was very brave in those days.

Of course all these girly advantages did nothing for my
grubby little brother a pesky tag a long 11 years younger.

JAK, I envy you your interesting childhood. Mine was pretty conventional, but I had a mom who knitted my sisters and me the most beautiful mohair sweater in every color of the rainbow (back when mohair sweaters were THE thing.) I turned into pretty much a jeans and t-shirt girl, and still am, though my T-shirts can get pretty wacky. After I told my son about the Queen/Adam concert tour, he got me a cool black Queen t-shirt for Christmas. I LOVE it.

DRG......I did have a wonderfully interesting childhood, but it was lonely...always moving, always the new kid in school. Not a good feeling.
Conventional sounds good to me...a neighborhood where everyone knew you! My mom was a knitter also, but I never got a mohair sweater!

I'd love the Queen t-shirt too! My son in law (the pirate wanna be) bought me a t-shirt that says Tavern Wench in Olde English script. I wore it a couple years to a Renaissance Fair, but mostly I sleep in it...it makes me feel decadent!...JAK : )
