Knit caps are called beanies....tho a beanie is a cloth cap of several sections usually with a button or loop on top where fabric meets. Sample - Girl Scout Brownie cap.

Montages are called collages....tho a collage is work of art made up of unrelated objects glued on a board, paper or
canvas. Sample - poster with picture, lace, ticket stubs, pressed flower, newsprint, autograph.

Welcome to Alice in Wonderland's topsy turvy world ! .?.!

To me a beanie is what Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum wear.

X-ACTLY!

Just because a 1000 people might say a chicken is a moose - would that make it a moose?

12:50pm ... Ha! Very good. Loving these pictures no matter what they're called.

And, boy, do we have some VERY talented artists in this fandom! AMAZING!

Great, the "word definitions may never evolve" police are back. Roll eyes.

Anonymous said...

1:27, but if an entire generation starts calling a chicken by the name moose we will still know what they are talking about. And then imagine it making it into the OED. The horror. Selfie and twerk made it in this year.

Anonymous said...

Beanie is already in the OED as a small close fitting hat worn on the back of the head.

selfie and twerk had no previous definition

How dare anyone call a knit hat a knit hat. Outrageous! lol

Adam in a Beanie = UNF!!!

Anonymous said...

Dictionary definition describes what Adam is wearing. Word police can back down now.

It's sad but true, so when you see moose eggs on the menu a couple years from now, just sigh and accept it!

Ask any child, teen, young adult (or even middle aged adults with kids in any of the previous demographics mentioned), what these hats are called, and they will all say beanies.....

Anonymous said...

Word police do not care what the international name is for these head coverings! A knit cap may not be called a beanie and a collection of pics may not be called a collage!!

Everything is so intense around here. It's predictable.

As a former English teacher, I gave up being a word purist a long ago. It's impossible. Language evolves. I wouldn't call what Adam is wearing a beanie, either, but that's what they're called now, so that's what they are. Language does not stand still. I don't know what jr. high kids or high school kids would call what Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee are wearing (beanies, to me) but they probably wouldn'tj even know what to call them. Language can be fun if we just go with the flow.

Love beanie Adam.

It's amazing to me how we can pick apart a simple statement or word....next lets discuss regional word differences...!

Would you guess that "red out my cupboard" and
"Clean my closet " mean the same thing?

I love the, whatever it is, on Adam's head.....when I wore one in Illinois it was called a stocking cap!.....JAK : )

For crying out loud, it's a beanie and Adam looks great in a beanie. I love beanies and wear one in winter. They're so lovely and warm.

Never heard of a knit hat - it's a beanie!

The word "beanie" has been in usage since the year dot. Get used to it.

Many thanks Lamberlust for the collage of Adam wearing a beanie, and Adam 24/7 for posting it.

Whoops! I meant "Lambertlust".

I have ALWAYS loved it when Adam is wearing a beanie-from the first time I saw him wear it when he was on American Idol. I don't know why he looks so sexy in it, but he just does! His hairline, the shape of his head, I don't know---he's just one beautiful man ----and in person, he takes your breath away!

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. - Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet.
It seems bean can mean head and so + ie. It can also be referred to as a skullcap lol!
A couple of years back, I wanted to buy this 'rose' and asked for a tight-knit cap and of course the store didn't carry it; too warm for our climate. Then one day, I was rummaging through my daughter's old luggage and there it was the beanie was staring right into my eyes; a beige beautifully knit beanie. She used that on her very very cold, wintry, university ground. Story of my skullcap. lol!
Oh another version: I used to call it Adam's airport arrival hat. lol! Lately, he doesn't wear that for airport arrivals anymore. Mmm...sometimes I feel Adam may be here picking up some tidbits from us. lol!

When there are pics of such a fine-looking man all together like that, I think a lot of things....but proper use of the English language definitely isn't one of them. ;)

I ADORE beanie Adam. :)

5:38 PM, don't let the "collage" police catch you saying that ;)
