bustle - The Music Industry Needs Artists Like Adam Lambert http://bsl.io/S6oXdT

Billboard reports Tuesday that Lambert’s been “busy working on new music in Sweden” with pop producer Max Martin (“Whataya Want From Me”) — but how much longer is that going to take? It’s been almost two years since the release of Lambert’s last studio album — that’s a long time in the world of pop music. I worry that without the support of a major record label, he’s going to have a tough time getting his new material out into the world.

What is it about Adam that makes us such devoted fans? I've been around for awhile and I remember a few teen idols and the Beatles, but never, ever followed anyone as closely as Adam. It's such a strange thing,, kinda like the Deadheads, which I never was, This is all so new for me.

Anonymous said...

Yep without a label Adam has no hope of getting his music out. To bad no one is interested in signing him.

There is no way that Adam could have worked with MM without a label backing the whole enterprise. From what is known so far MM assembled a writing camp for Adam and there are rumours that MM will also be the executive producer of A3.

@6:59PM How do you know? Does Adam inform you about his life and business? The big stars like MM never ever would work with Adam if they know that this is a bull sh...and Adam doesn't have the label! Think about it!

Go away troll.

I heard Adam has been paying for Sweden recordings out of his own pocket.

I heard Adam's new label paid for Max Martin and the work in Sweden.

I agree that the music industry does need Adam. He probably is the best vocal talent in music today, yet so underappreciated. There is so much "crap" that passes for music today that's on the radio or on the latest albums, and somehow that becomes successful, while Adam has to fight tooth and nail to try to get his music played on the radio. I hope that with the release of his third album and its first single that Adam does get the recognition and success that he so deserves esp. here in the US.

Even if a label pays for studio time, writers, producers, promo, etc., it ultimately comes out of the singers profit. They are going to get paid back every cent before the singer gets a dime. So either way Adam will be paying for everything. Either directly to the producer and team or out of the profits of record sales.

If as someone suggested that Adam is paying for his Sweden recordings out of his own pocket, that might be the reason he is performing at these private parties lately. It brings in the extra money he might need to fund the work on his third album. I don't know; I'm just guessing about this. It has been a while since the release of Trespassing and we fans are getting anxious to hear some new music before this year is over. Those who are not fans of his and don't follow him, probably might wonder what happened to him after Idol, the tour, and the first album. I am sure that the Queenbert summer concert tour will bring his name to the forefront of entertainment news again hopefully with a few appearances on the talk show circuit. He certainly looks a lot different than his Idol days, more mature but still very handsome.

Anonymous said...

It hasn't been that long since Trespassing. Patience, Glamhoppers, new music is on it's way.

There are any number of artists who take a lot longer than 2 years to release an album and it doesn't mean that their long -awaited album flops. On the contrary, some long-awaited albums are hugely successful. Have faith that Adam knows what he's doing and his new album will be well worth the wait.

Anonymous said...

Unless you plan on financially backing Adam, you have no business with your nose in his finances.

Anonymous said...

That why SS said artist dint make money on music it will come out of his new music. They make money on concerts. Yes they pay it back. I have no doubt he has backing one way are the other the Sweden thing was not on his own dime but will be paid back from future album sales. He also in the studio in LA cost money. He doing weekend things only done a couple so far I sure mainly for the band. It's long process doing an album and a lot of work needs make money in between recording he was gone two months. Stop worrying about Adam would not be doing this album if he could not get it distributed. KP was three years in between albs and LG two and a half and many others. Adam did work on it last year he had to regroup after RCA. Common sense will tell you he has backing for what he doing. He knows what he doing he not a naive man just let him handle it.

I don't have time to go over all these threads , sometimes I get bogged down laughing at the troll comments and it slows me down. Anyhoo was anymore said about Adam being at the iHeart music awards in LA on Thursday in any capacity and what his little interview was about yesterday. Thanks in case anyone knows.

Anonymous said...

He'll make lots of money from the tour, too.

@8:08 PM

Ha, ha ha! Thank you, thank you; could not have said it better. That one he, or she sounds like a broken record every day; almost on every thread about Adam and his new upcoming album! Sad litter person that doesn't care about Adam. Just here to be an agitator!

You are so right; some even take up to 5 years; Three years seem about the average. It takes money and time. Especially with someone as busy as Adam. Actually I heard that amost 2 years is excellent; and not so much the norm. Some artist never even get a second or third album; Adam just has so many devoted fans; he is very fortunate; and, it is because he is so darn talented. He probably had quite a few options; and we will probably never know. Thank goodness he keeps his personal business to himself.

Don't worry...Adam is always in control
Rock & Roll too, has its ups and downs
So, not so fast, he's bound to be around
To spin those glorious sounds
With his voice that wails like a killerwhale in heat
To be heard within miles and streets
Trounce, pound, bounce bounce up and down
Yea his 'Best Of' album will sell like hot cakes
People for some reason love an assortment
Like a kind of salad-toss-up
From Mad World to Outlaws Of Love
I've bought both the GlamNation and Trespassing cds dvds
Will be getting Adam's 'Best Of' in a breeze
So have no fear...Adam's time to shine is all too near
Remember, he's the dark horse that spurts from the rear
And ultimately wins! brandishing
His rare, humble talents in the cool westerly easterly winds lwl!

On my way to preorder; This will be great for Adam, don't see how it can hurt. The power of the Glam one, and his devoted Glamberts. Adam has picked up so many fans, even this year. Hear that voice and you are a fan!!

I was sitting here thinking about the MJ and Adam Lambert comparisons. MJ died in 2009 and Adam Lambert became famous in 2009. They were both born on the 29th day of their birth month. Both are Indiana born and California raised. Very eerie stuff.

Anonymous said...

why won't the radio play Adam? He has one of the best male voices in the industry. It's like radio has their picks and won't play anything that is legit. some songs are consistently on heavy rotation. Nelly was played for a straight 17 hours at some radio station. Go figure

Friend of mine has 9 Grammys nominations and 5 Grammys wins. He said to me over the weekend that artists that are signed with major labels get 20% to 30% of album sales. That's why a lot of artists try to find other ways to get bigger percentage of album sales. I'm sure Adam knows the loops of the business by now and this time with album 3 he will do anything to maximize on his profits.

From Billboard.com:

While Adam Lambert fans patiently wait for new music, Sony Legacy will issue a collection of the singer's greatest hits for those who want to complete their collection of official releases by the 'American Idol" season eight runner-up.

Lambert's former label home (RCA is a division of Sony) will out a "physical release" of the album, titled “The Very Best of Adam Lambert,” on May 27.

Adam Lambert Working With Max Martin on New Album

The compilation will include three American Idolperformances from when he was on the show, including his covers of "Mad World" by Tears for Fears and "One" by U2. Lambert's version of Lady Gaga's "Marry the Night" from his appearance on "Glee" closes out the 14-track CD.

Also included on the record: Lambert's contribution to the 2012 film, 2012, "Time for Miracles."

"If some of these tracks feel like musical mission statements, it's in their skillful fusion of mainstream pop and rock with left-of-center, if not underground, musician and pop-cultural markers, and their clear conviction towards that mission," reads the album's liner notes. "And it that's not the hallmark of an artist who's unfailingly true to himself... well, you are invited to listen to some more until you get it."

Lambert walked away from his recording contract with RCA last July after the release of two albums, 2012's "Trespassing" and 2009's "For Your Entertainment," along with several EP's and a live collection.

Adam Lambert Snags First No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 Chart

Since then, the singer has been busy working on new music in Sweden with producer Max Martin. He is set to hit the road with Queen this June.

Adam Lambert has been busying himself by taking part in recording sessions with Max Martin (who was behind the singer’s Grammy-nominated Top 10 hit “Whataya Want From Me”), hitting the set of Glee for his recurring role as Elliot “Starchild” Gilbert and prepping for his upcoming summer tour with Queen. But while Lambert has parted ways with RCA since the release of his 2012 sophomore LP Trespassing, that isn’t stopping the label’s parent company Sony from issuing The Very Best Of Adam Lambert in May, via imprint Sony Legacy.

According to Billboard, the compilation will be released on May 27 — a mere three weeks before the Adam/Queen tour kicks off at Chicago’s United Center (on June 19). Hmmmm. Interesting timing. Might Sony be regretting losing the American Idol alum, now that he’s suddenly so prolific in 2014?

Yes, prolific Adam! I guess RCA wanted to cower him to go their way which they thought would make more money for them. I guess it's business tactics but now their Sony umbrella company is swerving in to snare a bite from the Adam brand; Mmm so they ultimately indirectly is conceding to Adam's unflinching stand to churn out his own music and songs...why didn't they see that at the onset?

Wonder who else's music Sony has released like this? ie. a singer who is not at the very top of the sellers' list. Just wondering.

@6:59
'Without a label'? I'm listening to Adam right now on the radio.
Never underestimate the Glambert!

Believe me, its crappy nonsense that sells now! Very few will produce meaningful songs...look at beyonce's latest album, real deviation from her previous stuffs.
Please Adam, bring back catchy tunes like FYE, IIHY etc, fans will buy whatever comes out BUT what sells now is catchy, poppy tunes....erm Pharell's happy

So, to put this whole "The Very Best of Adam Lambert" album in perspective, nearly ALL of Sony/RCA recording artists have, at one time or another, had "The Very Best Of" recordings put together under the Sony Legacy Playlist title..

That includes Billy Joel, Beyonce, Britney Spears, Bruce Springsteen, Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Michael Jackson, Shakira, etc..etc.. etc... I think it's rather nice that Adam is included in the ranks of the greats and the popular artists, both current and past artists, and now has his own "Very Best Of".. He's joining some very prestigious ranks of recording artists... And yes, Elvis, Frank Sinatra, and so many others are represented as well..

I suspect too that another reason Sony is doing this now, is that Adam will soon be (if not already) signing with another label, and of course he's doing the tour with Queen this year.. and getting ready to release a new album...etc.. And he had that great run on GLEE. The clincher being that Sony Legacy can ONLY include songs that are recorded under their own label(s) (Sony, RCA, Columbia)... So this is the optimum time for them to release this CD...

Adam probably will see little actual profit himself from this release, other than perhaps royalties from writing credits on a few of the songs, but PERHAPS people will see it listed on Amazon (not sure if it'll be released to stores or listed on iTunes as an mp3, etc...haven't seen anything about that...) and if they buy, listen to and like his music, perhaps it will lead to them buying Adam's other music... ie his earlier albums: FYE and Trespassing.. And then his new upcoming album.. And of course, it's a great gifting opportunity for us to slip one to our friends :))))

I really see no downside to this.. Sure, Sony is most likely seeing this as a VERY timely opportunity to release this, but what the heck!!! Pretty sure it's a win for Adam too....in the long run. And I doubt this is the last time we see this type of release for Adam.. Someday we'll be celebrating a release of "Adam Lambert's Greatest Hits", just like Queen has been doing.. They've sold over 6 million of their "Queen's Greatest Hits" and that's nothing to sneeze at.. Different type of release, but still....

Here's what Sony Legacy says about this Playlist Series, somewhat paraphrased, from Wikipedia..:

"The Playlist website explains that instead of just "collecting the hits" and releasing them in a greatest hits-type album, the series instead compiles "key tracks, whether a chart-topping smash or a hidden rarity" to give the listener a more profound understanding of the artist and their career. By balancing "familiar favorites with deeper more revelatory selections", the series is able to cater equally to both those who are being introduced to an artist, and those who are simply being reacquainted. The albums cover a vast range of genres including rock, pop, country and jazz. In considering the 21st century music fan, the Playlist series have packaged all their produce in "100% recycled and recyclable eco-friendly no plastic digi-paks" "

Somehow Lammy's description of Adam's top notes as that of a killer whale in heat doesn't sound glorious at all. :)

Anonymous said...

Okay I was a bit hesitant about that actually so point taken; I was punning wail and whale, also Adam's sexiness. How about...Adam wails like a killerwhale soaring above the sea blowing out vocals into the air. By the way, I 've heard recordings of whales in heat and their sound is very alluring and can be heard miles away in the sea. :)

I too have heard whale recordings, they sounded like lonely agonizing groans.
