"Flashback to the ’70s? Male lead singer in leather, lace and leopard-print outfits, replete with sequins, platforms and occasional Elvisian sneer? Check. Howling anthems interspersed with wringingly emotional ballads? You betcha. Self-indulgent but crowd-pleasing 16-minute guitar solo? Smoke machines on overdrive and a tripped-out set that didn’t actually do much of anything? Oh, definitely. So yeah, watching Queen + Adam Lambert on Thursday night at American Airlines Center was, indeed, a little bit like entering a way-cool, hyped-up time machine with several thousand other folks who were all digging every minute of it. AAC hasn’t rocked like that since ... well, since shows like this were held at Reunion Arena."
"Was it a success? Absolutely."
"Lambert was Lambert all the way in this show, which expertly walked the precarious line — these are Queen fans, after all, and they are serious about their rock — between introducing “the new kid,” as lead guitarist/vocalist Brian May jokingly called Lambert, and making sure that everyone knew that Mercury, who died at age 45 in 1991 from complications of AIDS, remains the heart and beating soul of Queen[...............]...the Thursday-night crowd seemed to be all-in in accepting Lambert as the next best thing they’re ever going to find for Mercury."
"Along with Lambert’s incendiary vocals, an all-too-rare commodity rippled through the show: utter graciousness. Lambert made no attempt to take things over, simply trusting in the power of his voice, sexiness and shocking charisma (all every bit a match for Mercury’s) to carry things....................................."
..."The crowd seemed equally entranced with both New Queen (Lambert) and old (extended clips of Mercury playing on the bright, moving Q-shaped set piece/screen that dominated the stage)."
..."Later, there was a gorgeous few beats of pure synchronicity during “Bohemian Rhapsody,” with Lambert and Mercury singing alternate lines and sounding, truly, as if they were both right there. Lambert positively soared with the haunting “Love Kills,” which was Mercury’s first solo effort..."
"Other highlights: the singalong-thump of “Radio Ga Ga,” the naughty-but-fun “Fat Bottomed Girls” and the loopy “Killer Queen,” when Lambert sprawled across a chaise lounge and actually rolled his eyes, in good-natured jest, at yet another May solo......"
"Will the fabulous partnership continue? We can only hope...."
"What we want most: An album with all-new music, and Lambert on vocals. That would announce Queen’s full arrival into the 21st century, and we’d be ecstatic."

Thumbs up!
@glitzylady
THANK YOU for this and for EVERYTHING you do here for Adam and us fans!
I was the one asking for LV vids and have not had time to thank you and have a lot of catching up and back pedaling to do... This is again like during GNT, news, vids and pics (!!!!) galore every day and no rest for the wicked nor the nice...
Will read the whole article in a while, but have to say reading the excerpts was enough to make me appreciate this writer!
Once again, my sincerest thanks and sending happy virtual hugs to all Adam loving long timers here! Let's keep on Truckin 'n Rolling for QAL and for the joy these guys share and bring to fans worldwide!!!!!!!!!!!
Great article! Agree except for the part of new album with mercury! they need to continue forward not backward! Freddie is gone! We was wonderful but everyone has to move on and they have a very good thing going! I like Adams new band!
Absolutely accurate review and fair indeed!!:) People are getting the message that Adam is Adam indeed!!!:)

Fabulous article and thank you for bringing the excerpts here. I love hearing so many reviews saying Adam is not trying to be Freddie but is bringing his own mesmerizing style and showmanship to this Queen+Adam Tour. How grateful I am for that! Adam is wowing all the audiences ( and we knew he would, didn't we?)
This summer is so exciting and brings me back the happy times of the GNT's, videos, press, comments of posters....
Thank you Q &AL for this fabulous tour:))))

Pretty rough comments here about not releasing unheard songs they've done with Freddie. IMO there's no need for that kind of sentiment - from Queen or Lambert fans.
I am lifelong Queen fan. The houston and dallas shows were wonderful. Lambert is a great singer, and these guys together is a lot of fun. This was a very good review.
@Brent Bradley
I agree with you: I think it's awesome that Queen is releasing the new album with the previously unreleased material from Queen and Freddie Mercury.. I would suspect the majority of fans of both Queen and Adam Lambert feel the same way..Not speaking for anyone but myself tho..
I was at the Vancouver show, and the two Las Vegas Hard Rock shows.. It sounds like the Houston and Dallas shows took it up a notch! I can only imagine what it will be like by the time they wrap it up later this summer!
Long time Queen fan here, and more recently (the past five years plus..) an Adam Lambert fan.. He is indeed a fabulous singer and a nice guy too, as are the men of Queen. The opportunity to see and hear both in one place has been a dream come true for me!
btw: i got to spend some time with adam after the dallas
show. very very nice man. he was so tender with my
"suddenly shy" :) 10 yo daughter too. i will now follow his career and root for him. i told him earnestly what a great job he was doing. i'll tell u, these guys all get along offstage just as well as they do on. its not a show. they greatly respect and enjoy each other's company.
Brent, Thanks for your comment about meeting Adam. It's nice to know that our instincts about what a great guy he is are true.

@Brent Bradley
Thank you for sharing that! Was she the little girl we saw Adam talking to during the show?? Such a special moment!
As someone who has been absolutely fascinated with Adam since day one on Idol (as have so many others!), and who has incidentally met Adam as well, I can say that he is truly one of the nicest people out there. Everyone who has ever met him says the same thing.. He's a true gentleman and...a gentle man. He is wonderful with children.. I really cannot begin to say what a joy it's been following his career these past 5 years..
So glad you and your daughter had that wonderful opportunity to see the men of Queen, and the **new** man of Queen, and to meet them. I'm a fan of all of them.. Wishing them many more years of the thrill of playing their music for those of us who adore them..
Mr. Brent Bradley,
Welcome to our world with nice and respectful fans of Adam!!:)
Hope you and family will enjoy more performances of Adam and Queen in the near future!!:)
Canadian
no my daughter was not one on camera during the show.
this was long after the show far from cameras. i don't think
he takes himself too seriously, which i admire in people. he knows he can sing, that hebhas a gift, but i didnt see any signs of having a big head about it. i told him he was blessed, and he appreciated it.
i can pretty safely say there were no drugs anywhere, by the way.
Adam is got a lot on his plate now, plus a new album of his own. But a album with queen I wouldn't mind either.
Thank you Mr. Brent Bradley for sharing your experience meeting Adam. It is greatly appreciated to hear a long time Queen fan ( new us on this Adam Lambert Blog/Fan site) have complimentary and sincere comments about Adam. I've always believed Adam to be a gentleman and he has received many accolades from professionals in the music industry about how very nice he is as a person, humble and with extraordinary talent.
It's evident to us that the gentleman of Queen and Adam have a mutual respect for each other and are having the time of their lives performing together on this tour. I think Brian really enjoys Adam's playfulness and is becoming so himself!

Hey Brent,
Thank you for one of the best write-ups yet. You seem to get the magic happening with Adam fronting Queen and you pegged Adam perfectly. He's been such an exciting delight to follow and we wish him every good thing. He deserves it!

Queen is not Adam's new band.
