From the Boston Herald: "Last Best Queen Show: Queen + Adam Lambert At The Garden"

by Bill Brotherton

EXCERPTS FROM THE REVIEW:

"Is this the real life, or is this just fantasy? Adam Lambert sings those words from "Bohemian Rhapsody" every night as the featured vocalist for beloved British rock royalty Queen, and he must ask himself that very question. For the kid from San Diego, who is the latest singer to take the place of Freddie Mercury, the charismatic Queen frontman who died in 1991, it must be a little of both."

"And Lambert, 32, is certainly the right man for the job, as he ably proved Tuesday night during a 2 hour, 15 minute show at the TD Garden billed as Queen + Adam Lambert."

"Lambert, an "American Idol" runner-up, is theatrical and dramatic like Mercury, all thunderbolt and lightning. His powerful tenor and multi-octave voice amazed all night, whether he was caressing the lyrics of "Somebody to Love," belting out a hard-rocking "Another One Bites the Dust" or going over the top during a sensational "Who Wants to Live Forever" that was punctuated by lasers, a disco ball, once-frowned-upon synthesizers and yet another guitar solo by Brian May that brought down the house. During a killer "Killer Queen," divo Lambert luxuriated on a divan and played up the song's campiness. Most importantly, Lambert didn't attempt to imitate or impersonate the incomparable Mercury; his own affable, chatty personality shined through."

"I was blessed to have seen Queen in concert back in the '70s at the Orpheum and the Music Hall. They were something special. Tuesday night, May, Taylor and Lambert did Freddie proud, delivering a crackerjack show that added to the legacy of one of rock music's greatest bands. Bravo!"

Thanks for posting GL. Great reading and reviewer has a wonderful use of words in his description of the entire concert.

Not only did the reviewer enjoy the concert, he did his homework, AND he saw Queen in their glory days... He is a fan! And like many of us, he sees the brilliance in Adam..

I ALSO loved the fact that he appreciated ALL of the many parts and aspects of the concert, including Brian May's impeccable guitar skills.. I love Adam to pieces, but one of the MANY reasons I was so thrilled to see Queen and Adam in person, in concert, was to experience Brian May and Roger Taylor LIVE, to hear the legendary Queen music played by those who know it best..

Hoping to get that opportunity again someday.... :)

And I LOVE the picture of the guys at the end of the show.. I found it on twitter this morning and I had to include it! The love and camaraderie they have for each other is evident... The originals AND the "new guys"....

I know....they're having SUCH a great time, they really are.
I took one of the 3 of them at finale in Mohegan Sun and i think Roger almost slipped and fell cuz you can see Roger's leg slipping out in front of him (in the sequience (sp) of my photo's) and then the guys reached out to help him.... then Adam and Brian just cracked up.....they really are having a great time!!!

I'm incredibly happy when I read a review like this one. I think Q&A is more than a successful concert that honors legendary music and a diseased frontman that will never be forgotten. It's a cross generational spectacle on and off the stage that our one and only Adam contributes to so splendidly. Yes, it feels incredibly gratifying to me that he gets so much recognition for it. Additionally, the fact that audiences of all walks of life celebrate in concert together fills my heart with joy and pride. It's so Adam.

Hi Glitzy!
Yes, this is one of the most well-rounded reviews, and it's just great!

It'd be nice if we send something to this guy to just say "thanks, awesome job". (unless that violates some sort of ethics code?).
Perhaps through TALC?

...Just a thought :)

PS. As you likely did, I also observed last night that the popular blogger MJS (from mjsbigblog) was also won over last night and enjoyed her socks off a the concert. She seemed genuinely shocked at the magnitude of talent and charisma by Adam at he concert, and then captivated and held spellbound based upon her tweets and instagrams.
...To the point that her readers were giving her a boat load of ca ca last night due to her singing Adam's praises; though prior she has been typically fairly skeptical, which had prior suited quite a bit of them nicely.

It was actually kind of amusing. ;-) :)

...and BTW, I didn't know that Brian uses a coin vs. a pick. Who'da thought?! Cool :)

Great review....it means a lot more to me to read a review by someone who saw Queen in the old days with Freddie ....it gives them a reference point ....I was also impressed with the comments .... several commentors lining a nay sayer out... I love to read good comments from Queen fans won over by Adam.

I'm always thrilled to read a great review of Adam's performance! It makes my day! I also get a kick out of writers' who don't know Adam at all and think he's trying hard to be someone else (Freddie). Way back on Idol Adam had the same style he has today with Queen. And before that, he had the same style when he performed at dinner clubs with the dishes clanging! As for the Radio GaGa, etc., performances where he interacts with the audience, that wasn't copying Freddie, Adam did the same thing back in the day entertaining in the clubs as well. You can see it all on youtube. Adam is and always was Adam. I remember when being interviewed someone asked Adam how he was going to sing a song. He replied, like Adam Lambert, just like I always sing.
You gotta love him!...nancdruuu2

This is the most amazing tour ever! What great reviews they are getting (I know there's been a few negative ones but the majority are wonderful) and this particular one is lovely :)

I'm so happy for Queen and Adam that they are receiving such warm welcomes at each venue and the guys are thoroughly enjoying themselves which what it should be about. Kudos to all of them! The Show Must Go On!!!

Speaking as a resident Senior Citizen...I really hate that description.....what's wrong with just being referred to as "old"....anyway, while it thrills me right down to my creaky bones to read a terrific review of Adam's talent....... <3

I am appreciating the large crowds of enthusiastic fans who are showing respect for the enduring talent of Brian and Roger. Time has not diminished their gifts and they are delighting many generations.

All in all I would say this "hook up" tour was a damn good idea!
