Review: "Queen + Adam Lambert Hit The Right notes"

From "JD's Sport Rants"

EXCERPTS FROM THE REVIEW:

" ‘Reality show contestant replaces deceased rock legend’ is a familiar scenario with cringeworthy disaster written all over it."

"Last night in Melbourne Brian May and Roger Taylor entrusted the keys to their rocking Rolls Royce and Freddie Mercury’s legacy to Adam Lambert. To the surprise of many comprising Rod Laver Arena’s full house, who like me bought tickets primarily to see May and Taylor perform for the first and last time, Lambert drove the beast home without a single scratch."

"In fact Lambert was actually quite outstanding. Inconceivably more camp than Freddie, the one-time American Idol contestant’s soaring vocals and charismatic presence reiterated that May and Taylor are no dummies, and wouldn’t have embarked on such a risky venture without happening across a suitable concept and individual."

"Whilst Marc Martel, who miraculously looks and sounds like Mercury, might have been considered a more obvious choice, May and Taylor cleverly opted for a degree of separation, lest they become their own tribute band. In Lambert they’ve found a singer with the vocal range to carry their outrageously difficult anthems and the theatrical sensibility to carry the night with the requisite showmanship."

---------------------------------------------------------

"The encore followed tradition, consisting of roof raising renditions of We Will Rock You and We are the Champions. Glittering gold confetti filled the auditorium, as did a thundering ovation. God Save the Queen played and Lambert audaciously pranced about sporting a crown, Freddie style. Mercury would have approved though – to all intents, Adam saved the Queen, breathing new life into a supergroup whose music continues to win new fans, my two youngsters included."

"And as Freddie wished in his immensely painful dying days, all he wanted was to live on through his music."

Great review! This guy went to the show a doubter and came home a believer. Just like thousands of others who witnessed this tour. Bravo!

what a great writer and perfect descriptions.

Love it that the writer did his homework. He even hinted at the possibility that maybe John Deacon didn't want to have anything to do with the tour (although he was featured in the videos) rather than he was forgotten/intentionally omitted/ignored by the band as some other writers had insinuated. Also, he let his mind (and eyes and ears) and heart stay open to receive the gift that Adam gives to all of us whenever he performs. The little girl in me loves presents, especially those given by Adam!

Waiting as patiently as I can for more new music from Adam now that the tour is winding down. My family tells me that I have my "stupid grin" plastered on my face wherever I'm listening to Adam sing/talk and they can tell what I'm listening to even when I have my headphones on. They tell me that I have that same face on at the concerts as well. Yikes! Boy, I've got it bad... ;))

I loved the comment "Adam saved the Queen"
Brian said in an interview, when this tour started, that Deacon is retired, but he still counts the money coming in. From that I take it that he still gets a percentage of the royalties from Queen. Might be why Brian does not mention Deacon by name, it might go against the grain a little bit, when they are doing all the work, and Deacon just sits back. He may be retired, but still considers himself part of Queen, must be in his contract.

In an interview....Roger described John Deacon as "fragile" I assumed that meant his health was not good.
He chose to retire after Freddies death and Brian and Roger after a long absence chose to forge on.

I'm glad they did.....after a few front men they discovered Adam and "POW" the magic was back. Lucky us, lucky Adam, lucky Queen!

Yes, Deacon chose to retire and apparently isn't in the best of health. There seems to be no animosity among him and Brian and Roger. Deacon is doing what is best for himself and he has certainly paid his dues over many years with the band. Maybe he's watching some of the concerts on YouTube?

I am overjoyed that so many people have become Adam fans and truly "get" him. What a blessing for Adam to be part of Queen and get the kind of respect that has eluded him for the last five years from many people who considered Adam polarizing.

Fantastic review. Thank you admin. For all your hard work keeping us up to date on Adam. Don't know what I would do without this site. Sad that the tour is coming to a close but I know that Adam has more great things coming his way.I will be there to enjoy every bit of it!

In an early interview Brian and Roger said John is retired but still makes financial decisions with them and that he gave his full blessing to proceed with the tour with Adam.

Weird that reporters and fans alike think John may not approve.
