An UPDATE to this originally posted thread topic from yesterday: In addition to the video and story below, Mr. Cantu said this just now on twitter:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HOT METRO FINDS: "Queen + Adam Lambert Fans Trump Traditional Media Coverage W/ Social Media"

Via Ted Cantu

Mr. Cantu discusses the intense, fabulous, and dedicated fans and how (in his opinion) they (we!) have done a MUCH better job, in general, of promoting, advertising, reporting on, and keeping Queen + Adam Lambert's concerts of 2014 out there in social media..

He also criticizes Mainstream Media for their sometimes "shoddy" coverage of the concerts, the poorly written and sometimes puzzling and generic reviews, etc.. in the US.. And praises the fans...

He gives his take on "Fans as media consultants... journalists...It's exciting..."

"The tour was covered by social media fans as soon as cars were let into the parking lot."

Take a listen and see what you think!

Note: he was confused about who took the "Adam buying light bulbs" pics, but that's okay!!

 Interesting and insightful....

Great video! Yep we Glamberts know when to call bullshit if reviewers are talking out of ther ass about Adam!

I really liked this guys intelligece and way with words, and what he had to say about the media responses. He was so right on!

I hope he gets lots of good and honest fan feedback, these are the type of journalist that deserve it. He also seems to have a lot of respect for Adam & Queen and their fans.

Adam's seem to be getting a lot of good feed back lately. I think it helps the artist to see that they are so beloved by his fans, that they will support them in any way. I know that Adam is over the moon in love with his wonderful fans!!

Not every review was bland & bad, there were good reviews as well. Not every reviewer is going to critique the same & they can't be expected to critique the same.

This guy is a Glambert!

Who is this guy? His twitter and website are filled with search engine optimization information and money making opportunities and how to get rid of plantar warts and music stuff. Very odd. He can't even google search a pic to figure out where it came from. I'm suspicious.

I hope he isn't just trying to cash in on glamberts.

Hasn't this article been out before?

I find it hard not to find this fellow's observations & take on the efforts and savvy of Adam's fans pretty darn cool. And I admit that I am biased. ;)

Just curious. How is he going to "cash in on Glamberts"?? We posted his video on this blog, as did others.. Beyond that, I don't see where he's making a dime from anyone.. He is apparently a social media expert, promotes it in his business and perhaps this is one of the reasons he finds the Queen and Adam Lambert fans worthy of note, and interesting.. And he had personal experience with the shows himself..

As someone who followed the media reportage of the concerts, as many fans have, I believe he isn't off base with what he's saying, at least in some instances.

I heard nothing about the Queen + Adam Lambert North American Summer Tour anywhere except on twitter, facebook and from some minor media blogs for the most part.. I didn't have a concert in my city, so travelled to Vancouver and Las Vegas. There was NO mention of Queen + Adam Lambert that I saw anywhere in the Seattle area, where I live.. The only thing I ever heard was before the tour started when the iHeartRadio promo concert was coming up and a contest to win tickets to that plus a concert of your choice elsewhere was being promoted on Classic Rock stations. And of course the Good Morning America appearance in March of this year announcing the Tour. But that was it by and large. I was surprised that there were not some feature articles in the entertainment magazines.

If I was not an "involved" fan, didn't have a twitter account, did not go to blogs (this one for instance) and Facebook pages, etc.. I probably would not have had a clue.. And would have missed a huge opportunity to hear the music of Queen, played by some of the living members/legends of the original band, and sung by such a worthy vocalist/performer.. There was very little national media attention via TV, newspaper articles, or magazines.. This is what the man is lamenting..

About the reviews: Some were well though out, written by reviewers who obviously attended the concert from start to finish, and actually "reviewed" the show.. Others were written as if the reviewer went in with the idea he or she was going to hate it, disliked the fact that Adam was singing, or sometimes it seemed the reviewer wasn't even truly there.. And some seemingly didn't do their homework very well. A mixed bag.. And some reviews were utterly amazing!

This man wasn't saying that all of the media sucked. He was commenting on the fact that Queen fans, and perhaps especially Adam Lambert fans, are more than enthusiastic and do a fine job of keeping the news out there, with videos, pictures, reports and reviews, via social media, and he appreciated all of that..

Social media is obviously HUGE these days.. It wields a lot of power. It transmits information instantly all over the world. Fans are responsible for the majority of the videos, the pictures, and the information about the concerts.. And they get them out there quickly, via social media.. We get live streamed concerts, we get twitter feeds dedicated to commentary directly from concerts as they are happening via twitter. Who knew I'd "attend" a concert occasionally strictly via livestream and social media..

Adam Lambert fans are particularly good at getting the concert experience out there for other fans, and the media as well. Kudos to us!!

I have noticed that HuffPost (Entertainment Section) almost never reports on QAL -- even during the tour and I haven't seen anything in HuffPost yet about the QAL recent Classic Rock Award. Unbelievable!!!! I notice that a major article about Adam appears on the "Gay" pages of HuffPost rather than the usual Entertainment section. Yet the HuffPost Entertainment section is always loaded with reports about all kinds of entertainers. Also there is so little radio time given to his songs. Surely many Glamberts are asking to hear him. I do occasionally hear him in the grocery store when I am shopping. Otherwise, he is still being treated by the industry as a "cult artist." And yet, many music experts and critics and other singers consider him the best performer and male voice on the music scene today. He is so outstanding and unique, in fact, that the music industry can't figure out what to do with him. So, they try to ignore him -- not give him awards or too much mention thinking that he may go away. But, NO! He continues to become even more popular with the public as more people recognize his genius (partly thanks to us Glamberts and the privileges and laurels Brian and Roger share with him).

However, there are many great entertainers who were initially under-rated and ignored because of their unusual deliveries and/or appearances or materials -- Freddie Mercury being one. But they rose to iconic stature in spite of their slow beginning. I am sure Adam will ultimately be among these. He is already bound for the top. We Glamberts recognize this... there is no one else like this charming, gifted, thrilling-to-watch man. Beverly

Glitzylady, responding to your post at 1:00 am. I was never contesting or doubting anything you said from the second paragraph on. Not sure why you thought that.

I just found his website and twitter a very odd mix of things. It's an odd mix of mostly money making opportunities. He is obviously promoting himself as a social media expert - but with some concert reviews thrown in? As to what he has to gain, if he saw how good glamberts are at sharing things maybe he thought this was a good way to get more exposure for his money making opportunities. I'm not sure. All I know is my spidey sense was tingling.

The Chicago Tribune had a review of the Chicago show, but the paper carried NO promo of it beforehand. Led Zeppelin in coming to the United Center in May, I believe, and there has already been big promo. I agree that we fans have had to carry the ball on the QAL tour to keep it in the media. This guy's got it right.

***Just read a tweet by Queen Official that Queen + Adam WILL be performing at the X Factor UK.***

I don't think his ulterior(sp?) motives really matter, if he had any, does not matter. The point is he told the truth in my opinion.

Like Adam said to that young man Greg from VH1, who was interviewing him and Queen recently, "flattery will get you everywhere", when he kept pouring on compliments about Adam's looks and talents! So cute, and so true. Especially when the truth is being told, like in these two examples above!!

Glitzylady, wonderful post; agreed with everything you said, thank you. Also, Beverly you are so right on in your remarks!

I agree with the sentiment that if I was not a fan of Adam, I wouldn't have known about the US shows. I was unlucky enough to be without a computer for a few months last year and did not see or hear anything about Adam on mainstream media. Adam's fans have always opened up their hearts and wallets and it was so great to see him and Brian/Queen get recognition the other night.

I was just curious about your concern about his possible motivation re "cashing in" with Glamberts.. Other than that, my post was my commentary on his video plus my own experiences and thoughts re media and social media. :))))

Hmm, I'm seeing on twitter that some people are wondering if a fan paid for this. Apparently costs $299 for this guy to do it.

glitzylady said...

It's too bad some people can't accept some nice news/info/pats on the back when they're offered.

The bottom line is (and I'm not talking the $$$ bottom line, of which we know nothing about, in reality), the word about Glamberts is definitley out there.

Those of us who have followed the Queen + Adam Lambert concerts, the various media offerings including reviews and promo, or lack thereof, the tweets, the vids, the pics, etc.. know Mr. Cantu is saying some things that are true.. And he's offering kudos to the fans..

I do remember this man reporting about the concert he went to earlier this year... He loved it!!! And apparently he learned about the fans use of Social Media to spread the word.

Being paid for this? Hmmm, well I guess almost anything is possible these days.
