In honor of the 4th of July in the US, we look back at Adam Lambert singing "The Star Spangled Banner" (US National Anthem) over the years 2009-2013

First up, Adam was invited to Miramar, the Marine Corps Air Station in San Diego, CA, on the occasion of his "American Idol Top 3 Homecoming" on May 8th, 2009..

Here he sings the National Anthem, and receives congratulations and an award..

Same occasion (Miramar MCAS), close up version

Here, Adam sings an impassioned "Star Spangled Banner" at the "Broadway Bares" Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS event in NYC on June 23, 2013
MMMMM

And below, Adam sings "The Star Spangled Banner" at the Anti-Defamation League Event on Dec. 9th, 2009, at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, CA, where Stephen Spielberg was given The Democratic Legacy Award.. (LA Times article link here with an Adam Lambert mention)

There is no HD-quality video (this one is a bit blurry visually but has excellent audio) from this event, but once again Adam's vocals are immaculate...

Yes! He should do the Super Bowl. Absolutely no doubt about it.

Adam is the only high placing idol who hasn't been asked to do a ton of high profile anthems at major sporting events, on the national mall at holidays and the like. He really gave himself a bad reputation sad to say and people booking those kind of events will never forgive him.

I personally like when he sings the anthem as a ballad and not trying to make it his own, in fact a bit of showing off with what he can do with his voice. Most people take this seriously. His voice is beautiful, and the anthem sounds magnificent, when he sings it as it was meant to be. He was in SD during Idol, when he sang it best. There are some songs you just don't mess with. If he sang it at the super Bowl, he might be booed if he changed it up. A lot of people attending the Super Bowl, don't know who he is.

I wouldn't say never, in a few years he might be a super star, he just isn't there yet. Equality is one thing, but how many openly gay singers have ever been asked.

Uh oh, poor old glitzy is working overtime today

Anne Marie, Clay Aiken has sung the anthem at many major events. The World Series, the national Fourth of July celebration, and major football games to name a few.

I've always loved the Miramar Acapella performance by Adam better than any others I've heard. He sings the word "banner" correctly, not putting in that extra note, vocal coaches applauding, as it's a huge pet peeve. Others have to show off & are on an ego trip with too many riffs which is a turnoff for me, being the National Anthem & somewhat disrespectful. Adam changed a few notes to make it more current & relatable. The the last word, "brave" was sung with such strength, depicting the meaning & feeling of the word. Adam is so gifted.
