Adam Lambert's Tweet (2-14-18)

@adamlambert: "Sending light and healing to the students of MSDHS in Parkland, Florida. Heartbreaking."

This tweet from CNN contains a link to the 10 deadliest mass shootings in recent US history. Many involved the deaths of children and schools, including this one, which is so far the 9th deadliest ever. There are no words....

"9. High school in Parkland, Florida: At least 17 killed February 14, 2018 - A former student opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. The suspect, a former student, was expelled for disciplinary reasons, officials said. He was taken into custody shortly after the attack."

Evil just won't quit! So heartbreaking to hear about another school shooting tragedy! My prayers are with the students who lost their lives and those who survived along with the families. Also to the community. Prayers for healing are sent your way. So sad. :(

It never ends. Unfortunately, the shooter is obviously disturbed with a violent past. And had been amassing guns and ammo. I heard the weapon he used was an automatic or semi-automatic assault weapon. A student who was interviewed said it was known that this guy had weapons. The whole thing is so sickening and is getting way too common.

How terrible for those people, those families...those children! Who knows how soon we'll be commiserating about this same thing again in the near future. This is the 18th mass shooting THIS YEAR, and we're only 1 1/2 months into 2018!

Our lawmakers have to get some backbone, and say "NO" to the NRA Gun Lobby....and then re-establish the Federal Assault Weapons Ban that was enacted in 1994, but expired in 2004, and several attempts to renew it since have failed.

The only need for an assault weapons is if you want to kill as many people as possible in a short period of time...i.e. in WAR. Unfortunately, it is also the weapon of choice for mass murderers!

Our Republicans, mostly...our lawmakers...our statesmen?....are in the firm grip of the National Rifle Association (NRA)....which donates huge sums of money to their campaigns...and wields the force of its huge constituency (gun owners/voters) against any lawmaker who tries to make ANY laws that curtail gun making, gun buying, gun selling, gun owning, gun type or gun regulations.

The NRA keeps its constituency of gun owners riled up by insisting ANY attempt at gun control is the FIRST step in taking away their Second Amendment rights.."The Right To Bear Arms"...i.e. taking away their guns entirely...which is ridiculous, but many gun-owners believe it, and vote for NRA lackeys (politicians).

So...it is up to reasonable, intelligent citizens to get rid of those lawmakers who are in the pocket of the NRA....and vote for people who will ban those multi-killing assault rifles and their multi-bullet magazines that are so prized by mass murderers....and have reasonable but strict gun registration and purchase laws for other types of guns.....

It is important to note that when the Second Amendment was written...the arms people "had the right to bear" were, in those days, only single-shot weapons, which were used basically for hunting...for food. Those lawmakers THEN never envisioned such a weapon as today's assault rifle!

So, VOTERS, watch carefully the platforms and SUPPORTERS (NRA?) of those you vote for in the next election, if you want to stop these mass murderers...or at least seriously deter them by having stronger gun control laws and regulations.

Why should one be able to buy a gun before he is even old enough to buy a beer? And just as a driver's license requires a driving test, a gun purchase should involve certain tests and proficiencies...especially involving mental stability and detailed background checks.

Those poor people in Lakeland, Fla! .....I am SO angry at our DO NOTHING lawmakers...too busy "feathering their own nests"!...so THIS carnage keeps happening!

Sorry...I should have said Parkland, Fla....not Lakeland.

I'm 5 minutes away from Stoneman Douglas HS at my daughter's in Coral Springs. She works for a group of mental health professionals who will be helping the victims & their families. The city is profoundly angry at this administrations refusal to even acknowledge the need to ban assault rifles & impose stronger gun regulations. Pres. Obama had issued a directive that no firearms be sold to the mentally ill. Trump signed a directive deregulating that order. The NRA donated 30 million $ to his campaign, along to sizable amounts to GOP Congressmen & senators. Mental illness needs to be addressed, but it's not what is causing these mass murders. It's the proliferation of guns. Our family knows family members whose children survived. This is one of the highest rated school in the US in a what has been considered the safest city. I'm concerned that some homophobe could harm Adam. I've seen people in the grocery store where I live walking around with guns in plain vie in a holster. It's like the wild west of early days. My heart breaks for these families.
My son in law was at the school today. I was too upset to go, maybe tomorrow...
