Adam's garden is just like him, wild and weedy. lol! Hey Adam, you better check on that surreptitious tree...you know, Serpentine! Sounds like Adam's voice in the background. Pharaoh! Wherefore art thou? I mean where not why.

Pharaoh:
Good morning Lam-My! I'm on the sofa across the garden, with Uncle Terrance recording his friend in Daddy Adam's Garden of Eden.

Wah, Pharaoh, you know the Bible and what I'm referencing. You are getting cheekier and smarter.

Pharaoh:
You get back what you give away Lam-My. Ooooeeeh!

Not so exciting huh? Daddy at the studio lately and also getting ready for next tour with Queen Uncles.

Well, it's okay, Uncle Terrance takes good care of me, always making sure I get my munchy marrow on time. Also, miss Uncle Sauli who babysits me when he comes to stay.

Lam-My:
So have you heard anything yet about Daddy's new songs. I've heard a short snippet of a piano piece and Daddy singing softly. Very nice.

Pharaoh:
Uncle Terrance is hooking up my leash...he's taking me on my daily run on Runyon hill; the one with many locks hanging on the fence. I also want to put my lock there.

What about a vegetable garden? Raise your own, organic all the way. Growing season is longer then in North Dakota.

creamtangerine....Is your nose still cold...and your tootsies still warm? I guess growing season in North Dakota must be v-e-r-y short! LOL

Yes it is cold here today -33 below wind chill. You can start planting the end of May, if there are no frost warnings. And if you get your garden in, it will grow until the first frost in the fall. Could be end of August, Sept. Then you have to clean up your beds for next year. Then the process starts all over again. We plant a lot of tomatoes, and do canning and other vegetables. Grocery store right in your back yard. All organic. It's work but very rewarding. We also have fruit trees, but the frost hits us in the spring when the blossoms are on, so no fruit. Plum, cherries, apricot trees.

Nice! Do you have a farm?...a farm "business" that is? Or is all that just for your own consumption?

I know it's a lot of work, but think how many people will NEVER know what it's like to pick a PERFECTLY ripe tomato off the vine...and pop it right into your mouth!...Yumm. Or yank a carrot out of the ground...brush off the dirt...and chomp into it! Or sit in a Cherry tree and stuff your face with all the ripe ones within reach.....or...I could go on and on... sigh!

Sounds like you need "blossom-cozies" for your fruit trees.

I started 'square foot gardening' two years ago. Little work and no backaches. And a lot of results.

Sounds interesting, Marielle. Can you tell me how I can get information on it? I live in a condominium, but I have a tiny patio in back....unfortunately it is rather shady.

I assume "square foot gardening" is done in containers? Maybe I should give it a try. Is there a book by that name?

BTW....Adam's garden is attractively natural. All those plants were obviously planted purposely to achieve that casual effect. I imagine the occasional weeding and watering is all that's needed to keep it so full and rich (almost tropical) looking. It also provides a nice privacy screen.

I wonder if Adam still intends to move....and to where? Does anyone know if his house is still on the market?

No I do not live on a farm, this is just on my property in town. The yard isn't all that big, but if planed out right you can get a lot of produce in your little garden, and trees in your yard.

@Nanbert, Mel Bartholomew is the originator of SFG. He wrote several books and there is a website. I have wooden boxes of 4x2 ft on 'legs' so I don't have to bend over. No digging or weeding necessary, just watering. I just found a website with boxes with built-in irrigation, so maybe I won't even have to do that. Big fan of biological food, not a big fan of gardening unfortunately.

Marielle and creamtangerine....sounds interesting....thanks for the info...I have done somewhat similar "backyard gardening" many years ago...in built/lifted beds filled with a good soil mixture.

I have a small ground-level patio...with restrictive condo rules about outside "projects". Maybe I could just try planting in a large pot/small barrel-- even a nice big tomato plant would make my BLT's delicious! I PINE for a vine-ripened tomato!
