I've always believed American Idol's Simon Fuller chose "A Change Is Gonna Come" for Adam to sing on the AI finale because he'd seen THIS video of Adam's 2004 rendition of it from the Zodiac Show. Enjoy.....

Both renditions are unequalled masterclasses! Iconic!

BTW....I've often wondered how Adam feels about re-visiting videos of his American Idol performances. He must be very proud of his work...he was unequalled....and EVERYONE knows it....especially him!

How lucky I feel...to have been "with him" from that beginning! It has enriched my life in so many ways.... and still is!

It was great to watch this after so long, it’s also quite relevant in today’s world.

Ohhhhhh myyyyyyyy God!!!!!! Made me cry again! That night my father and I had the biggest smile! Adam tore that song like it's nobody's business! Adam was always in the game, what were you talking about Simon. Lol.

Adam Lambert - American Idol Finale - Singing "Beth"

Anonymous said...

He sang with such emotion - it just gave me chills. When he lost to Kris, my granddaughters called me immediately and asked if I was crying (yes) and were worried about me. I was soooo disappointed that night but, of course, since then I've been very happy and have seen him many times in concert singing his own songs and with Queen too. As Paula said, he would be iconic! And she was right!

When Adam came in second to Kris (I liked Kris but I liked Adam best :))))), it was very fortunate indeed that our big flat screen TV was very new because otherwise there would have been a huge temptation to throw something at it.. And the air was *blue*, if you know what I mean.. And that was my husband yelling at the TV! Hahaha! Because he's also a very big Adam Lambert fan and has been from the beginning...

To be honest, I was rather prepared for it to turn out that way because of a certain amount of speculation about that possibility. For various unfortunate reasons..

But YES! Adam was and is still the winner in reality...

My absolute favorite moment of the entire Idol Season 8 was when Adam appeared on stage in all of his fabulous glory and sang "Beth". I was so proud of him and so thrilled to see him being Adam..... That's when I cried with happy tears. And it's been that way for me ever since......

Glitzy. So glad you mentioned "Beth." I mention it whenever the topic of "Adam favorites" comes up. As you say, that is the moment when we saw a glimpse of the Adam we hadn't quite seen yet. The glitter on the eyes. The shoulder cages. Many of us had an instinctive sense that the Adam to come was going to really shake things up. When he sang, "Me and the boys'll be playin' all night," I knew we were in for a wild ride.

Believe it or not, I wasn't home on that finale night. I had to video tape it! I came home later and my son said, "I'm not telling you who won, Mom. You'll have to watch yourself." And I watched and I cried in shock, but then I know it was all going to be ok. We got our treasure anyway.

Please forgive this post because it may sound a little whiny. Just read an article in my morning paper about a new album of six songs dedicated to the LGBTQ community. It includes Bob Dylan, Kesha and some others (not all A-list types). It's called "Universal Love." The songs are all well-know but have the pronouns changed so that the males and females in the songs are switched around. It think it's a nice idea and attempts to show the universality of love, etc., regardless of sexuality.

But once again, it's an example of a project that Adam would have been perfect for. After all, he is the first openly gay singer with a major label to have an album debut at #1. That should be big enough cred to include him in something like this. He should be in the mix of more of these things, IMO.

Remember Adam and "Fever," with "There SHE goes, my baby walks so slow..." We all thought he should be able to sing "There HE goes, my baby walks so slow." But he didn't. But he was still ahead of his time, I think, because the topic had been raised. He may have even sung it with the "he" a few times. I don't remember.

Kesha (who I think is just fine) was out of the public eye for a few years with a court case and zoomed back onto the music scene without a hitch. Got on awards shows, etc. Got a good "comeback song" and did well, I think. Go figure. Like I said, if I sounds whiny, so be it. I just hope Adam's new management might make a difference for him in this regard. Adam was a perfect fit for this project.

Ok, rant over!

Nanbert said...

Dee R Gee...I agree wholeheartedly. I feel bitter sometimes too. Whine away!

But, it's funny what you remember about "Fever"....I don't remember him ever singing it with "she"...I always heard "he". That's one of my favorite songs, too. I'll have to go back and listen to a few again.

BTW....How did you like that sparkly "Beth" I posted for you up above? He was so happy there!

Dee R Gee said...

Y'know, Nanbert, he DID sing "there HE goes" a lot. I think I had that mixed up in my mind. Thanks for the correction and thanks for Beth!

Adam's original of "Fever" contains "he". I don't think he has ever sung "she" in the song. As I recall, there were Glamberts who thought "Fever" could have become a single (a HIT single) if Adam had sung "she" instead of "he".

This is one of my favorite cover songs ever by ADAM .. especially this performance .. he was at the brink of tears when he finished singing this at the finals .. it should have been the tie breaker but I guess the die had already been cast by then!! Another song that never got any recognition by radio or anywhere at all was ... Can't Let You Go ... from his FYE album ... I get shivers & I tear up when I hear him sing it ... one of his very BEST!! Why??? didn't they release that or at least give it some recognition?? I just do not get it!!

fluttsp....that's very interesting. I never knew...or don't remember...that some Glamberts wanted Adam to sing "Fever" with a "she" instead of a "he". That may be what Dee R Gee had in mind about that song.

I think, early on, some Glamberts were either in denial about Adam's sexuality...or didn't take it seriously enough. Others maybe felt that the less said about it the better...in light of our homophobic society.

But Adam finally set us all straight about the matter....he was unapologetically gay, and that was IT! I admire him so much for that. I think we've all have learned a lot from him about being yourself....being truthful.

We've learned a lot about the LBGTQ community also... because of Adam....he is such a good and forthright representative/advocate.

Lambert Outlaw. I'm literally trembling, THANK YOU! I have the FYE album BUT this song "Can't let you go" is NOT on my album?! Why? What OTHER SONGS am I'm missing???? My FYE album has 13 tracks with "Time for Miracles " as a bonus track! I'm feeling rather sick right now, I didn't know this song existed until today with your posting of a link! No wonder songs like "Vodoo" and can't remember any other we're not familiar to me, I DONT have those songs either on any of my albums! 😢 I didn't have anyone to tell me such things. I'm the only Glambert in my circle and had to find things on my own and having an old slow computer didn't help either, I was lost many times these past years, so I missed out on many thIngs on Adam, like these songs. Fast forward today I've got my Tablet and Smartphone and doing pretty good keeping up with all things Adam. But I'm feeling very "blah" right now. See I DONT KNOW everything about Adam! :((

Sunflower said...

What about Tresspassing? I hope to God I have all the songs, and the Orignal High? I pray I'm not missing any songs!

Nanbert said...

Sunflower....I understand your confusion. I went through the same thing myself a while back. As I understand it, the "bonus songs" at the end of an album change with each country in which it's issued. They are ALL gorgeous, such as "Can't Let You Go".. which was NOT released in the US version.

But Youtube has them all, so you can listen to them there....."Map"...."Hold On"..."By The Rules".... ALL wonderful songs! That all I can think of at the moment.

Maybe Adam should issue an identical album to all the countries containing ALL the bonus songs in one place.....so everyone can enjoy those, too....and catch up.

Happy hunting! I know you'll enjoy those songs I named as much as I did. Hopefully, someone else will come up with the names of any songs not yet mentioned.

Sunflower said...

Nanbert. Thank you so much, I had the impression that everyone had the same songs on their albums. I feel a little better that you mentioned Can't Let You Go was not realeased in the US. All the songs you mentioned are brand new to me. When I find them on YouTube, I'll be listening to them for the "very first time". You know how Adam sang Rabbit Hole during his Glamnation tour? I have never heard of that song, but apparently everyone else in the audience have. I had asked myself, How does everyone knows this song and not me? Oh well, grateful for YouTube, hahaha. Thanks again Nanbert, I've written the titles on paper.

Nanbert said...

Sunflower...me again.....do you have Adam's album "Playlist..The Very best of Adam Lambert"..which was released by RCA in 2014?

"Can't Let You Go" (previously unreleased in U.S.) is included there, along with some songs from Amer. Idol, some from "Trespassing", "Marry the Night" from Glee, and "Time for Miracles".

Sunflower said...

Grrrrrrrr, no Nanbert! Oh boy, I'm telling you I didn't know much about these things. Guess I should search in YouTube. Thanks, I'll try also for this playlist.

Nanbert said...

Sunflower...."PLAYLIST..THE BEST OF ADAM LAMBERT" is the NAME of the actual ALBUM. I may not have made myself clear.

Hey, hang in there.... we'll all have fun introducing you to our favorite Adam "stuff"...you'll "catch up in no time.

One suggestion about "catching up"....from time to time, look up interviews with Adam on Youtube over the years...just random ones...you'll get a lot of insight into Adam personally there...he's very articulate and intelligent...and so damn likeable!

Whoa..never thought I'd suggest "interviews" as entertainment to anyone! But he usually gives such good ones!

Sunflower said...

Ok I got it Nanbert! I made a note of the name of this album. Funny you should mention interviews, about 2 or 3 weeks ago, I was watching a video here and there of Adams performances, when I came across an interview of his that was from 6 YEARS AGO! Whoa!!!!! Where did this come from? It was so good and yes he's very articulate and intelligent and funny! Can't believe I discovered this interview 6 years later. Hahaha
