In a new interview with Wonderland, out singer Adam Lambert is asked whether he's ever experienced any homophobia in the music industry.
The 36-year-old Lambert publicly came out gay after his appearance on American Idol.
Lambert told Wonderland that he's been out since he was 18 and that the issue of his sexuality simply didn't come up while on American Idol.

“I have been gay and out of the closet – very loudly so – since I was 18, and I wasn't in the closet on the show or around anyone,” he said. “It wasn’t until the show was wrapping up that I realized everyone wanted me to come out, but I was already out! I’ve always been out. It was just never talked about because it had no baring of what I was doing on stage. It’s not like it was a big surprise with my outfits or my looks or my song choices, you know?”
When asked whether he's ever experienced homophobia in the music industry, Lambert, the first out artist to have a number one album on the Billboard chart, gave a diplomatic answer, saying that executives were wading into uncharted territory.

What a shame some people had/have this kind of phobia! We ALL are the same in body, mind and spirit!

Sunflower... people have had this phobia mainly because of ignorance. They believed (and many still do) that people were "queer" by choice, not by nature.

Even though science has made it abundantly clear that being "queer" is inborn, and an integral part of that person.... many people still chose to consider it an abberation and unnatural... and many people (especially in certain religions) still believe that strict "training" methods can change people "back" to straight. Wrong!

Fortunately, homophobia is slowly receeding. And to a large part it's due to the "queers" themselves. Instead of hiding in the background, they have chosen to "come out" in a strong and almost militant way.... to "label" each faction of their group with an accurate and identifying name.... to be "in your face" and forthright about their lives and rights as human beings and citizens...to organize in significant groups like GLAAD....and to be unapologetic and unashamed about their differences....but "PROUD"!

And that is one of the expressions that I thought strange...."PROUD to be LGBTQ, etc.". I thought..."I'm not "proud" to be straight... I just AM. Why do they use "proud" to describe themselves? But "PROUD" in their instance is used to indicate the OPPOSITE of ashamed, embarassed, apologetic, belittled, freakish, denigrated, etc. It means that they have as much right to be proud of themselves as straight people do...and they will no longer hide, or keep in the background.

I express myself badly, I know. But being an Adam fan has been a potent learning experience for me. He has taught me a lot just by being unabashedly himself...and has made me want to learn about, understand and support the LGBTQ community. My sense is that most Glamberts feel the same way.
