What does "pimp his hair" mean?.....cut it?

Another haircut? Oh well, Nanbert I'm not sure either but could it mean " a trim "? A bit here and there? Otherwise I've never heard of "pimp" being used for a haircut.

I think it's just a slangy way of saying "messing with his to change it up a bit." Adam has the most versatile hair I have ever seen. He gets about ten different styles with one single haircut. And they all look pretty darn good.

You're probably both right. Most of the time I pay more attention to Adam's hair than I do mine! Mine is like.....close enough! LOL

Looked it up ... means fix it up .. make it look good ... such as pimp my ride (car) .. house, etc.

I pimp my own hair since I can't go anywhere to have it done any more .. I cut it myself too!! The things you learn how to do when it becomes necessary .. lol

I just decided....the word "pimp" as used above must have initially been changed by accident....misspelling, poor vocabulary, bad typing, or whatever.....and just took off into slang from there.

We all know the real definition of "pimp"..... it's the "man who controls prostitutes and arranges clients"

However....we also all know the definition of "primp"...."making minor adjustments to one's hair, makeup or clothes". And that's where I think the error happened...someone dropped the "r"!

As far as I'm concerned, that guy "primped" Adam's hair. It's the CORRECT word to use.

As I stated in an earlier post .. I looked up the word in the Urban Dictionary & that is what was in there among other definitions .. I have heard the expression "pimp my ride" which means make your car look like a show piece .. and it did say in the dictionary that means to make something look good or better than it is such as ... car, house, hair, etc. Nothing said about primping .. just that!! So I am taking it to mean getting ADAM ready to look his very best for Berlin concert!! JMO

That's right, Lambert Outlaw.

Actually, I agree with you two, Lambert Outlaw and Rosemary White.

There's little doubt that the guy above was using the slang word "pimp" which evidently means, in the Urban Dictionary.... the same thing as "primp" in a standard dictionary. Obviously, somewhere along the line it was "bastardised" into that slang word....at least for now. Or, maybe someone used "pimp" in error, and decided it was amusing to keep that. Who knows?

But the Urban Dictionary contains temporary, constantly changing slang, that can be contributed to by anyone, and its words/phrases are temporary things at best... and may be gone tomorrow.

Call me old fashioned, but I prefer the stability of standard dictionaries, which all agree on the same definitions of words.. That's how we can all understand each other!

FYI...In standard dictionaries...."pimp" is a noun....and "primp" is a verb.

Primping his hair just doesn't cut it. lol

I'm weighing in here, too. I'm with Nanbert, prefer the stability of standard dictionaries. A pimp is someone who sells someone one else for sex. Primp is to touch up something that is already just fine. That's my position and I'm sticking with it.

haha, Rosemary White, really good line!!! Love it!

The most interesting question is.... Which word would each of US use in the same situation?

Nanbert said...

Haha....I'd just avoid the whole conundrum and say....."TRIM". LOL
