Wonderful news, and great song choice for Adam — TSMGO really shows his range. Of course I'd be lying if I didnt say I'm slightly disappointed Disney didn't choose Adam himself to host, it just makes sense. I love Darren Criss, but what's the Queen connection? At the very least, coulda been Ramy Malek.

And because I'm selfish and partial to Adam, he should be singing at least TWO songs, right?

And where is Brian & Roger in all this?

But don't want to be a downer, I am happy it's happening and that Adam is involved and, PR-wise, other than Darren, they seem to be putting him at the forefront.

Thoughts...??

I’m happy it’s happening too. But I was thinking Adam could host and sing all the songs and even do all the commercials. Just sayin :)

Some thoughts off the top of my head. ABC has not completely forgiven Adam. Darren is straight, Adam is not. The host should be someone not attached to Queen family/don't show favorites. Maybe they did ask Adam and he couldn't so he recommended Darren. Darrens management team is pushing to keep Darren in every spotlight they can because of his Christmas album. Executive producer and/or sponsors want Darren. I'm gonna watch the special and expect to enjoy it.

I'll go along with wanting 2 songs, broddy.

Also, what Rosepetal said. lol!

I agree with everyone...I want MORE of Adam. And where are Brian and Roger?...in fact, where is the Queen band?
Patria, it's possible ABC is still angry at Adam, but, if so, I understand it is because he performed his song "For Your Entertainment" on TV much more flamboyantly and suggestively than he had done in rehearsal (which is a no-no!) NOT because he's gay (although the unrehearsed things Adam did were definitely gay)....but because he broke the "rules" for live TV performances, i.e. you must perform it exactly the way you rehearsed it! No surprises allowed!...especially sexy ones!

Is Darren really straight? Humm, I assumed he's gay, since he's played that convincingly in more than one character.

Whatever! This will just be another feather in Adam's cap. He really should be MC...or at least have more songs. Maybe if he behaves this time, Disney will make him a Disney Prince! heh heh. Wouldn't that be nice? He really NEEDS at least one Disney prince under his belt during his career.

Thanks, Rosepetal, Patria and Nanbert!

I'm not sure it's about the AMAs after all this time, I mean Disney gotta be kind after more than a decade — a lot worse has happened by others since. But it MAY have something to do with, as you said, Adam being gay and Darren straight — despite the fact that Disney employs thousands of gay people — I was one of 'em! Although they need to stop that line of thinking if that was the reason. Another reason, and I hate to say it, but they (wrongly) may feel Adam isn't a big enough star for them.

On the other hand, was Darren ever on ABC? He was on Fox. Also, the Show Must Go On documentary special was on ... ABC! Also, Adam opened the Oscars ... on ABC! Adam got more ABC cred than Darren!! lol

Oh, and Darren is definitely straight, Nanbert — he and his girlfriend (or wife?) just announced TODAY they're having a baby! And Adam has already congratulated them. Of course, Darren is definitely "metrosexual" — although, who knows, he could be bisexual ... but I get the feeling not.

HEY! I have been gone almost day and just got home to find out about this! I am thrilled! Despite everyone's speculations about this and that, I'm just happy that Adam is on network TV in primetime for a viewer audience that is huge and will be witnessing his talent. I'm not going to worry about the other stuff. TSMGO is a real powerhouse song that is rightly given to Adam to sing for this program. Can't wait!

Brian and Roger have hinted that they MAY do some US concert dates next year after the UK and European dates are done. This TV special may spur some who have never seen QAL to buy tickets.

Dee R Gee, it is heartening to hear that Brian and Roger are considering US concert dates AFTER their already rescheduled tour in 2022. That tells me that they are not only rarin' to tour again...but are dedicated to continue touring well into the future! So good to know! Fingers crossed for everyone's good health. I hope they return to Pittsburgh! I LOVE QAL!!!!!!!

Dee R Gee said...

They haven't confirmed any US dates, but they did casually mention the possibility. So it may not happen at all. Just hoping.

Late for this train ride but "What y'all said about this Disney special"! Wow broddy you are the 2nd Glambert I know who has worked at Disney, what fun! 🤗

Dee: fair point about Adam and the ABC Queen special. We are grateful! :)

Also, Dee & Nanbert, re. US concert dates: it was just on one of the recent Roger interviews where he said the US is WAY easier to tour than Europe and that all the venues really have their acts together and know how to treat their incoming artists, whereas it's very spotty throughout other parts of the world. Plus the audiences here are as enthusiastic as anywhere else. Plus Adam is ... American. So I think that makes a great case for them doing some US touring. Heck, they are so thirsty for touring they may not wanna go home for a long while! Adam will be fine, and I think Roger will be fine, but we all do have to have a modicum of worry for Brian, given his recent health difficulties. But hopefully the tour will just give him gobs of life!

Sunflower: yes, I worked at Walt Disney World, 2006-09. I was a "floating" stage manager for shows & events. In other words, most stage managers are assigned to one stage for an indefinite period of time. Me, they put me where I was needed to cover vacancies, vacations, sicknesses, et al. Yeah, there were a few days here and there where they had nothing for me, but they usually did. The job had as many downs as it had ups. Working behind the scenes at a Disney theme park is a hard job because you gotta support the magic that is being created "onstage (which means anywhere in the park where visitors are), and that can be a complicated situation. Oh, and the personalities! But all of that lends to Disney parks being THE theme parks and why they are so revered. There are parts of it I sorely miss, and parts I don't. My favorite assignment I had in my three years, you ask (well, you didn't ask, but I'm gonna tell ya anyway!): Illuminations: Reflections Of Earth. That was the big night show on the lagoon at Epcot. A big globe that floats on water with videos and music and lights and fireworks. I was there for 7 months and, after a hard learning curve, it was glorious! Can't wait to get back to WDW to see all the changes made. I haven't been back there since either 2012 or 2013.

Have you been Sunflower? Which one(s) and when? And what's your favorite thing to do there? And everyone, I invite you to also respond to those questions, if you like.

Thanks for sharing your WDW experience, broddy! Must be an amazing place to work, both good and not so good. Believe it or not, I was there only ONCE, and that was in 1976 over Christmas break. They were just breaking ground for EPCOT. The growth and changes since the have been mind-boggling. There is no place in the world like it. BTW we visited DisneyLand, too, some years later. It's smaller, but it's got a lot of charm. We loved it.

Hoping QAL does wind up doing some US dates!

broddy...how neat it is that you were involved in some of the night shows on the Lagoon at Epcot...maybe even the couple that I attended back then.

I have to say that I was super impressed with WDW....such a class act! Everything was pristine, no chipped paint, flowers everywhere, beautifully landscaped, high quality in everything! I fell in love with the fountain when it played music and danced along with it...mesmerizing!

But the cherry on top was the night show on the lagoon at Epcot! Surrounded along the banks by ooh's and ah-h's and delighted murmurs in the many languages of the visitors from everywhere.... was the first I realized how many people from all over the world were seeing this with me. Maybe I was being silly, but somehow WDW seemed to display (to me) some of the BEST of America!.. fun, kindness, quality, inventiveness, imagination! And it made me feel SO PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!

I sincerely hope that WDW has still managed to maintain that high quality today.

Ooh broddy working with the shows! I went to Disney World in 2010 days before Adam’s Glamnation concert in Indiana and my birthday week (heehee). One brother of mine and his family in Tampa took me and another brother to Disney World, and my wish was to go inside Cinderella’s Castle. So off we go inside the park and all I wanted was to go to the castle. My family and I hit all the shows, really love the one where there is an outdoor show with actors and I think at that time it was a Western Theme. I loved shopping for souvenirs, bought key chain with my name on it, a couple of tee shirts, souvenir of post cards (for me to keep, lol) because it had pictures of the park, jewelry, usual stuff. I loved It’s A Small World” ride and a raft/boat water ride where you get splashed and eating the food, saw the Fireworks and Parade at night! So anyways we went inside Cinderella’s Castle and I was disappointed because it was not a castle but an American food restaurant. All my little life and adult life I believed it was made into a real castle with all the chandeliers and furniture trimmings. Boohoo NOT, it shattered me, but I became a big girl and proceeded to order my Hamburger and Fries with a soft drink! LOL. I haven’t seen everything at DisneyWorld so no Epcot. One day I hope to go again. Btw back home after Adam’s show I lucked out in meeting Monte Pittman and Tommy Joe Rattclif and took a pic with them. Too bad Adam isn’t friends with them anymore, I liked those guys. Tommy’s left arm’s skin was so soft though! :))

Vegas tonight! I hope there will be some fan vids posted around. This will be a great show! And the live stream is next Friday the 29th. Hope a lot of people will be watching!

broddybounce said...

OMG, Dee, that's right! Yup, hope we get to see a lot of photos and maybe some video! And I will be there one week from today! SO excited. Just made a dinner reservation at one of the Venetian restaurants for my friend and me. Gonna be an amazing night. I'll definitely take photos, at least.

So we've seen clips of the rehearsals and we're all waiting with bated breath at what he's gonna wear and how many costume changes there will be — but I'm also wondering about ... set design! When I saw his show at Fantasy Springs two years ago, it was very minimalistic. Hoping with this being a mini-residency and especially Vegas that there will be something a tad more elaborate.
