Hilarious Adam picture!

It takes some musicians years to stockpile enough anecdotes worthy of a Behind The Music rockumentary, but American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert just managed to do so record time, following a classic rise/fall/redemption story arc in just one week.
The saga began last Sunday at the American Music Awards, when Adam--an unknown less than a year ago, before he became the breakout star of American Idol season 8--was primed to be the breakout star of the awards telecast. It was supposed to be his big night, with his first televised performance of his new single "For Your Entertainment" closing the big show. It was a classic rock 'n' roll Cinderella story of overnight stardom.
But then, something went wrong. An "in the moment" Adam got "carried away" (his words) during his raunchy performance--which, in case you missed it, featured a same-sex smooch, dancers on leather leashes, a whole lot of R-rated groping, and one especially outrageous unrehearsed dancer-interaction. All of this left blindsided camera crew members scrambling to quick-cut to widescreen audience reaction shots and panicked staffers in the editing bay working overtime to cut out "offensive" scenes for the show's tape-delayed broadcasts. By the end of the whole spectacle, the live audience was sitting in semi-silent shock as Adam flipped the bird, and roughly 1,500 irate viewers flooded the ABC switchboard with complaints. It appeared that on the biggest night of his life, during his important make-or-break performance, Adam Lambert had blown it.
The fallout continued later in the week, when it was announced that Adam's free Wednesday concert on Good Morning America has been cancelled, reportedly because ABC--the same network that aired Adam's controversial AMAs performance--was skittish that he might pull the same stunts that landed ABC in hot water Sunday night. A rep for GMA told TV Newser: "Given his controversial live performance on the AMAs, we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning."
But then, this whole tale had a rising-from-ashes happy ending. CBS rival morning program The Early Show promptly swooped up Adam for its Wednesday episode; the scandal only seemed to spike sales for Adam's debut album, For Your Entertainment, with him now predicted to sell an impressive 225,000 units in his first week; he delivered tamer Early Show and Letterman performances that were well-received by the public, establishing that it's not all about shock tactics with him; and he became a free-speech cause célèbre as he pointed out the double-standard that his performance had generated far more controversy than similarly racy displays by heterosexual female AMA performers.
So maybe he knew what he was doing all along. Regardless, it was one crazy week for Adam Lambert.

Re "Adam Lambert Causes a Fuss," Quick Takes, Nov. 24: When Elvis Presley first performed a bump and grind on national television, millions of older Americans were apoplectic in their response. After Adam Lambert planted a kiss on a male keyboard player at the American Music Awards, 1,500 people complained to ABC. We've come a long way. Haven't we, baby?

Adam's album will debut at #2 behind Susan Boyle

Steve Barnett's Columbia Records and Susan Boyle have a lot to be thankful for this weekend. And that goes for you two, Adam Lambert and Lady Gaga.
Going into the weekend, Simon Cowell's gal Boyle is a runaway for #1 on next Tuesday's HITS Album Sales chart, with a total almost three times her closest competitor, 19/RCA/ RMG's Idol runner-up Adam Lambert.
Boyle's I Dreamed a Dream is on target for between 625-675k in sales, which would be the year's biggest debut, besting Eminem's 608k for his Relapse album.
Lambert's For Your Entertainment looks like a lock for #2 with between 210-230k.
The week's other big story is Interscope's Lady Gaga, whose seven-song Fame Monster EP will sell between 190-210k, good enough for #3, while her just-released two-disc Fame Monster deluxe edition should add another 130-150k to that album's total.
Decca's Andrea Bocelli is the lone Top 5 holdover at 180-200k, where he's running neck-and-neck with Def Jam/IDJ diva Rihanna's critically acclaimed Rated R with the same estimated total.

The Adam Lambert image is a subject of great current controversy, has not been nearly as widely disseminated, and for all we know, may still lead to legal consequences."

Interview by Aidin Vaziri
You can’t ignore Adam Lambert. Even if you’ve never seen an episode of American Idol — or just like to pretend you haven’t — the flashy Season 8 runner-up has become a major point of water-cooler contention and conversation. Everyone’s been talking about his triumphant performances on the show with classic rock icons Queen and Kiss, that chest-baring Rolling Stone cover feature in which he boldly came out of the closet, and the constant stream of tabloid appearances leading up to the arrival of his debut album, For Your Entertainment.
Lambert shot up through the “Idol” ranks by effortlessly straddling the pop and rock worlds, delivering glammed up covers of songs by the likes of Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith and, erm, Tears For Fears through a thick layer of black mascara. That adventurous spirit carries over to For Your Entertainment, where Top 40 collaborators (Max Martin, Dr. Luke, Linda Perry) mix it up with some more unexpected names like Justin Hawkins of the Darkness, Lady Gaga and — our personal favorite — Muse. Of course, there’s also that dashing blue-haired album cover photo.
In an exclusive interview, ShockHound spoke to the 27-year-old Southern California singer about his Idol experience, coming out before his album did, and growing up in a house where the Grateful Dead ruled the stereo.
SHOCKHOUND: Do you think the reason you didn’t win Idol was that you were too hard to swallow for a mainstream audience?
ADAM LAMBERT: No, I actually think they took me quite well. I went all the way to the end. I think that’s pretty progressive. I know I'm alternative, a little bit left of center. In the end I think it came down to apples and oranges. Kris Allen is insanely talented and you also had other contestants dropping off, which shifted our votes. I mean, after Danny Gokey was voted off, his audience was much more likely to become a fan of Kris' than mine especially because Danny and I were pitted against each other from the get-go, which we both found endlessly entertaining.
SHOCKHOUND: How much pressure did you feel appearing on the cover of Rolling Stone before you actually put your album out?
LAMBERT: There's a little bit of pressure. But that feels good. It's encouraging. It's cool. It's inspiring. Getting the support of Rolling Stone made me feel like I could get mainstream credibility, which was a totally major part of the reason behind doing that.
SHOCKHOUND: Were you thinking about what kind of impact it would have on your career and fans when you came out?
LAMBERT: That's the coolest thing about this. I never signed up to be a role model for anyone, but I do recognize the indirect impact that just being a visible gay man has. I'm very humbled by that. I find it to be important in that regard. I didn't have a lot of people I could look up to when I was younger. It was so taboo. And in high school people snicker about anything having to do with homosexuality. So quite frankly the only thing I feel I am a role model for is owning yourself and being open and honest and being a part of it. That's something I hope is getting out there. I'm not trying to push some sort of message or agenda. I'm just trying to be myself.
SHOCKHOUND: When it came to making For Your Entertainment, how much was your vision and how much was it record company suits hoping you would sing “Hallelujah”?
LAMBERT: I worked with two A&R guys [from the label], and from the get-go it was like, "What do you want to do? Who do you want to work with?" So I made my dream list and we went from there.
SHOCKHOUND: How did you score the song "Soaked," which is an unreleased track by Muse?
LAMBERT: That was wild how that all worked out. I think somebody at my record company knows somebody that knows somebody. I don't know how they found them. That was quite an honor to be given that song. That one is left of center, definitely [an] acquired taste. People that love music will get it, but some people will get confused by it. It's risky. It's different.
SHOCKHOUND: I thought that was your intention with the whole record.
LAMBERT: It is. There are songs on there that are more accessible. And there are the more alternative songs.
SHOCKHOUND: The album cover has caused a bit of controversy. Is it something you dreamed up when you were 14?
LAMBERT: No, not when I was 14. When we started planning the photo shoot I decided to go super glam. I love that sensibility of artists like Bowie and Prince. Unfortunately, it hasn't been done in years. At least by a man.
SHOCKHOUND: Well, you have to remember that when they did it they were the only ones too.
LAMBERT: Exactly. Part of entertainment is grabbing people's attention. That's part of the whole thing. The visual presentation is a part of the music. It’s hard to stand out without something stunning.
SHOCKHOUND: Growing up, your dad was into things like the Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan and Bob Marley. Can you stomach that music now?
LAMBERT: I grew up with a lot of Grateful Dead in the house, yes, but he also introduced me to David Bowie. We had a lot of Bob Marley and Jimi Hendrix, too, which I loved. I'm not a huge Dead fan, to be honest. I'm more intrigued by the culture and lifestyle because it's similar to the Burning Man culture.
SHOCKHOUND: Didn’t you have the revelation to try out for American Idol on one of your Burning Man trips?
LAMBERT: It wasn't quite like that. It wasn't like I was tripping on drugs and went, "I'm going to be on American Idol!” I would hope I'm a little deeper than that. But being there triggered a need to be more creative and expressive, and to be really proactive with the experience. It made me realize I have to make things happen for myself. It gave me the kick in the pants I needed to do all this.
SHOCKHOUND: So you've already been on the cover of Rolling Stone, appeared onstage with Queen and Kiss, been on TV every week, and now you have an album out. What else can you possibly do?
LAMBERT: Man, I want to just keep making cool music. The album is not even out yet and I'm already in the back of my head thinking, “Wouldn't it be cool to work this person or that person?” I'm already thinking about the future. Not to get ahead of myself or anything but I already have ideas about a tour and hopefully putting on a concert that is a show. I have a lot of friends I want to work with. I know dancers and musicians that are my friends. I get to work with people I've known for years. That's the fun of all this.

U.S. music retailers say they are realizing Susan Boyle’s dreams, as her album “I Dreamed A Dream” is blowing up way beyond sales expectations.
Label and distribution executives, meanwhile, project that based on early sales returns at the big box stores and pre-orders at direct marketers like Amazon and QVC, Boyle’s album is in contention to beat this year’s top debut-week seller, Eminem’s “Relapse.” That title scanned 608,000 units in the week ending May 24, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That week also represents the best overall sales week for an album this year.
Meanwhile, Adam Lambert’s “For Your Entertainment” is also outperforming sales expectations, despite—or perhaps because of—the risque performance he turned in at the American Music Awards on Sunday, Nov. 22. Label and distribution sources project that “For Your Entertainment” could sell about 225,000 units in its first week.
Likewise, Lady Gaga and her three-pronged sales attack on consumers’ purses is also much stronger than expected. Of the new “The
Fame Monster” deluxe edition, “The Fame” original version, and
“The Fame Monster” EP, also just issued, the former two combined could sell about 150,000 units while the EP is expected to top 200,000 units.

The finger was to the people who doubt me. The finger was to the people that were about to censor me. The finger was not to fans or people who support me at all, by any means.
"The finger was to Out magazine's editor who wailed into me, people like that," he continued. "It wasn't premeditated; it just kind of happened. Adam Lambert Help American Music Awards Score Big Ratings
Filed Under () by Admin on
Posted at : Tuesday, November 24, 2009

Thanks to talked-about performances from Adam Lambert, Lady Gaga and Rihanna and wins by the late Michael Jackson and country superstar Taylor Swift, the American Music Awards drew its strongest audience in seven years.
According to Nielsen estimates, the awards show drew 14.2 million viewers, which is 2 million more than last year's program and represents the best showing by the AMAs since 2002.
Though NBC still won the night with "Sunday Night Football," ABC pulled ahead during the 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. hours. The strong numbers for the show were boosted, no doubt, by the promise of more than 20 performances from some of music's biggest acts, including Jay-Z, Green Day, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Eminem with 50 Cent, Janet Jackson and Whitney Houston.
In the end, though, it was Lambert who made the biggest headlines, with his aggressively pansexual performance of the title track from his major-label debut, For Your Entertainment. In addition to drawing more than 1,500 complaints from viewers who took issue with the man-on-man kissing, girl dragging and S&M play, Lambert's awards-show coming-out party lost him at least one gig when ABC's "Good Morning America" announced Tuesday (November 24) that it had canceled his planned appearance due to the controversy kicked up by the AMAs.
Lambert took it all in stride, though, telling "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest on his radio show on Tuesday that he respects the "GMA" decision. "They gotta do what they gotta do," Lambert said. "It's too bad. I think there were a lot of fans who were excited to come see me. They probably had a lot of pressure coming at them from certain people who weren't happy about it. I respect their decision. I don't necessarily agree with it, but they need to do what they need to do."
Lambert, who lamented what he perceives as a double standard when it comes to risqué performances by men and women in music, said he felt no need to apologize for his AMA debut. "I don't feel I owe anyone an apology for anything," he said. "I performed, it was late-night TV, I did something that female performers have been doing for years, no different. It's just the fact that I'm me and it's a little different for people. It's really not that big of a deal. I'm not a babysitter, I'm a performer."

Parents Television Council (PTC) does not think “GMA” should have canceled Adam’s performance
Filed Under () by Admin on
Posted at : Tuesday, November 24, 2009

Before the “GMA” cancellation, the “American Idol” season eight runner-up was already booked to perform pre-taped on CBS’ morning show, “The Early Show.” CBS has now announced that Adam will perform live on Wednesday, November 25. CBS says he will also, “discuss his recent controversial ‘American Music Awards’ performance.”
However, the Parents Television Council (PTC) does not think “GMA” should have canceled Adam’s performance. Dan Isett, Director of Public Policy for the PTC tells Access, “I do think it’s a little bit unfortunate. This is not a personal crusade against Adam Lambert.”
“The idea that he should be scrubbed from TV completely is not where we’re going,” Isett continued. “It may be a bit of an overreaction on ABC’s part. The important thing is that networks have the easy ability to air on a delay to prevent this sort of thing.”

Adam Lambert: "I'm Not A Babysitter, I'm A Performer"

Listen to Adam Lambert speaking exclusively to Ryan Seacrest this morning about the whole controversy.
Hours after ABC pulled the plug on Adam Lambert's Good Morning America performance, Ryan Seacrest exclusively spoke to the Idol runner up who shocked audiences Sunday night at the AMAs with a sexually charged performance.
On his racy AMA performance:
"It's choreography, we were dancing. The sexuality of it kind of got a little more extreme when I got up on stage. I think the adrenaline kind of took me over, and I admit it, and i'm proud of the fact that I did get a little carried away."
"I don't feel I owe anyone an apology for anything. I performed, it was late night TV, I did something that female performers have been doing for years, no different. It's just the fact that I'm me and it's a little different for people. It's really not that big of a deal."
"I'm not a babysitter, I'm a performer."
On the appearance of a double standard:
"I do think there's a slight double standard. We've seen female pop performers doing extremely sexual routines for years and all of the sudden a guy does it and it's crazy."
On ABC's decision to cancel his GMA performance:
"Obviously I respect their decision, they gotta do what they gotta do. It's too bad, I think there were a lot of fans who were excited to come see me."
"They probably had a lot of pressure coming at them from certain people who weren't happy about it. I respect their decision - I don't necessarily agree with it, but they need to do what they need to do."

Solange Knowles defended Adam Lambert on her twitter this morning. Here are the tweets.
# i've never heard ANY of Adam Lamberts music. Never watched American Idol, but loving the series of tweets about him this week. Rock on Adam! and womp womp for whoever canceled his (adam lambart) show. scaredy cats. art is art. pop is pop. raunchy or clean. good is bad, bad is good, bad is bad, good is good.its all about what YOU like.no wrongs no rights. ive never heard this Adam guys music, just saw everyone talking about his kiss and cock shove. watched the clip.......agreed that women in music do "raunchy" all the time. they sing about kissing girls, and kids bop makes kid version. they wear tissue paper as clothing, pasties over nipples, ect. let the man kiss who he wants. never heard his music. so this isnt personal. just "RIGHTS FOR GAYS.....Oh yeah" Im over it. If britney and madonna can kiss and not have shows canceled so should adam and whoever else! i just want free rights for ALL. I get sick of the discriminating. Race, Sex and Demographic discriminating.
She even got into a discussion with some haters who disagreed with her.

5 Trending topics on Adam Lambert and the GMA fallout

People on Twitter are seriously mad at this! I hope ABC gets the backlash for doing this. It is ridiculous to assume that Adam would perform the same thing on a morning show. Adam performed a few months ago at GMA and it was very family friendly.
Adam Lambert knows the difference between late night TV and early morning TV. Obviously he's not going to use the same routine from a show kids should be sleeping during to a family show in the morning.
If you want to participate on this. Head to Twitter right now!

This is not good. I'm actually furious they would do this. If you do not like what ABC had done, go to Twitter and help trend #ShameOnYouABC which is #1 right now.
