I agree that Kris Allen was the right guy at the right time.......when they announced his name I wasn't surprised, but I cried "oh, no!" Then - grown up lady that I was, I actually cried salty tears.
How could the viewing audience not see that 'STAR' was written all over Adam with his chubby cheeks and ragged hair and devilishly merry eyes. I felt that American Idol had let itself down.......Adam was not only spectacular, he was a 'spectacular' every week......didn't every weeks audience wait eagerly to see what personna we would be treated to? Rock star? Heartbroken lover? Something new and wonderful each week.
When that season was over I went into a brief period of mourning..................Later...I recovered. :-)
JAK, I had a similar emotional experience when Season 8 ended. I too cried salty tears, from sadness mixed with anger. I recovered from my period of mourning, but it took a while. I couldn't bring myself to watch American Idol again after that, unless Adam was on.
I could really care less who the final AI is since they eliminated my fave ... once again I let myself be drawn in to AI when I saw the cute blonde perform week after week ... big mistake!! Once again I was disappointed ... should have known better ... farewell American Idol ... Thank you for ADAM LAMBERT .. the only TRUE Super Star to emerge from your show!!
I haven't watched the show with any real interest since! Since Mr Adam Lambert basically revolutionized the show. As many of us have agreed... he broke it. ;)
This was a pleasing article... well done... And Dee R Gee... I'm loving the press he's getting too!
My jaw dropped that night at the finale of Season 8. How could this be happening? It can't be true? But it was true. And Adam handled it like a gentleman. The rest is history, of course. Voting shenanigans or not, I think some of the AI voters simply were not ready to crown someone as non-traditional as Adam. Many AI voters have historically been from more conservative areas. I think that played a part in the result. I, on the other hand, celebrated Adam with abandon every week. Loved each new and different take on a song. Each creative risk he took. It made all the difference to me. He did "break" that show, and it never recovered. No one since that season ever came close. I fell in love.
In foresight and hindsight, it was predictable that the Gokey voting block would go to Kris Allen. The pundits of the music industry ( and Adam )knew that the AI "winner" title was superfluous to his career arc. I think the fans were more upset than Adam! I wonder if Kris would have had a stronger career ( not that he is not doing well and I am sure he is happy) if he did come in as runner-up. Cannot be easy to be referred to as "Kris who?" and as a chronic example of forgotten and "bland" winners.
