Carly Smithson : Adam Lambert has one of the greatest voices ever!

In a new interview with Idol Chatter, Carly Smithson had some nice things to say about Adam.

“I have never met Adam Lambert. But absolutely, I am a big fan of his. I think his voice will go down in history as one of the greatest voices I have ever heard. He did say in the Rolling Stone interview that he thought I was fierce cause he watched the show while he was in Wicked. I would love to meet him. He seems like a very carefree person.

“He did everything on Idol that I didn’t do. I got on the show and I got immediately, very attacked mail-wise. Absolutely, I got tons of mail. People liked my voice, but they didn’t like by tatoo. People would say that they really wanted to vote for me but they didn’t believe in ‘sullying your body the way you do.’ Like how bizarre and really how sad that you think that way. My husband would look at me on the stage and say, ‘Who is that? That’s not my wife.’ We were in this other universe because we couldn’t go out and spend a ton of money. You have a stylist and you have maybe 15 minutes to pick an outfit out. I was on Idol before there was someone who actually stepped out. There hadn’t been a female who was tatoed before, there wasn’t someone who was going after that rock-and-roll place.

“Like Adam Lambert didn’t give a shit. he just went out on stage and he was who he is and I became a fan of his very quickly because he did everything that I probably should have done. I mean, I got very far and I was very happy with my finishing place but musically I definitely would have liked to do… there are many, many songs that I wanted to do but they didn’t clear."

I remember her on Idol. She looked kind of strange at the time, but she was definitely talented. Probably it was too soon or she didn´t have the charisma to stand out and be liked. Adam is unique, it´s like he has everything to love him. It´s like he has a special aura.

I remember Carly, I thought she had a great voice. She is from Ireland and when she spoke she had such a charming accent. I think the main reason she had tattoos, was that she and her husband had a tattoo store in San Diego. So sad she was judged for that over singing, she is a great singer, I hope she is doing well with her tallent.

Carly was a favorite of mind when she was on Idol. The tattoos did not work in her favor because Idol is more middle America and biased about everything different. Adam was different but I agree with anon 9:31, Adam had an aura about him that made him so lovable, also his huge talent could not be denied. I wish Carly every success because she is really talented and deserves it. Also, she appreciates our sweet Adam. Good taste! nancdruuu2

Ahhhh, the Irish, have been judged in America since the day they arrived. She is a true talent and we wish her the best! AND she is beautiful!
Adam just has it ALL really. One of the greatest singers ever, he's gorgeous, smart, great body, tall, creative genius and then on top of that, he's just the nicest guy ever! He just has it ALL! and in some ways I have always thought that it was perfect that he didn't win AI so he wasn't labeled with that title forever. AND he knew it didn't matter. He is free!

I thought she had (and still has) an amazing voice.
That said, there is something about having the "total package".
Adam does, naturally. There is nothing "put on" about him, which is why I think so many are drawn to him.
Many future success to them both!!

I believe Adam has one of the best voices of his generation. He took risks on American Idol and I think that was what made him a household name. The way he played to the cameras on AI was like nothing I had seen before or since. Keeping everyone interested is key, and I think that is the secret to longevity.

Carly is now the lead singer for Evanesence(sorry for misspelling). They are a rock group, which I loved their music with the original lead singer. You know, all the idols were good singers, BUT!, the one & only idol whoever stood out was Adam, because he was true to himself. & Adam was exciting to watch & I looked forward to seeing Adam each week!

I really loved Carly on idol. I am so pleased that she has fallen for Adam like all of us. Her eyes are as beautiful as Adam's. Loved her accent too! Never liked the tats, but then again, I don't like tats anyway-not for me. To each his own. She is a talent in her own right. Go Carly!

I really liked her on Idol...it sounds like they just had her too afraid to be herself...And I actually have the Evanescence Album, but didn't realize it was her as the lead singer!! good to know!

I liked Carly on Idol and she really is talented. Nice comments from her and I wish her the best! Adam did have an advantage of confidence, professional training and experience that gave him incredible stage presence along with his talent. He was fearless on stage and knew what he needed to do and did it. I also think Ricky Miner, vocal coaches and people behind the scenes respected Adam's talent and believed in his instincts. Even the mentors, with the exception of Randy Travis,[ who isn't that musically sophisticated outside of the C&W genre] were in awe of Adam's ability and creativity. Adam believed in himself and left everyone in the dust. No one was in his league and although there have been great talents on Idol, I don't think anyone has or will come close to what Adam brought to that stage. funbunn40

I enjoyed this article very much 24/7 admins, thank you for posting, I probably would never have come across it otherwise, and I enjoyed it from the Carly angle as much as the AML angle. Glad Carly is having some success with the revamped Evanescence - which I believe is now called The Fallen, I think??... and apparently she is much easier to work with than Evanescence's former lead singer... Carly did always seem like a nice nice, reasonable person when on Idol, as well as a talented singer... her decency seemed as obvious to me as her tatts, and really, IMHO, one should never have been seen as negating the other ;).

@9:08am, no Carly isn't, but it's still nice that she said it. Of course, it probably garnered her lots of hits, but it's still nice that she said it, and I don't necessarily think publicity was her motive, I believe maybe gut reactions motivated her to say these things. In any event, you are right 9:08am, we all already knew.

Wow i'm so glad that many of us are familiar with Carly who has a very pretty face. She was also in a league of her own during their time and that is one of my many issues against AI, the great ones are voted out early in the show which confused me a lot. As @nancdruuu2 has said, AI more often than not is against the unconventional. Thank you Carly Smithson for recognizing talent when you see one.

Yes you are right @MGF the new name of her band is The Fallen :-)

@funbunn40 - what else can i say thanks for your post :-)
