It makes me sad to watch Adam's "It Gets Better"
because he acknowledges that he still has to deal with bullying. We know this too well from reading disgusting comments about him. Fortunately he seems smart and strong and confident enough to not let them defeat him. Not everyone is that brave. So I hope that this campaign helps those whom society still seems to set apart in many ways. Tiny baby steps of new understanding are encouraging, but so s-l-o-w.

Wanted to say that my much loved relatives in Paducah and Hickman,Kentucky would get along just great with your dad! Also wanted to thank you for liking my Goodbye and Hello list. I was getting so carried away I had to end abruptly and forgot my tag! I had about 20 more things to list but caught myself up short! Wise decision I think.....................JAK

Congratulations, Adam! This is such a terrific video with such a PERFECT (NON-victim stance) message for anyone who has ever felt sad, afraid, rejected, lonely, isolated, beaten down, like they didn't belong, or like there was something terribly wrong with them for being "different".

JAK, It made me sad, too, to know he'd read some of the vile comments directed at him on the internet, so also cried when I first saw it. I've even seen death threats made against him on a CNN blog! I'm not sure, but it's very possible that Adam may not have ever encountered that type of bullying until he became known on American Idol. He did mention a singular event when he was in high school, when a guy made some remark to him in the lockeroom, & Adam--using his size--decked the guy, putting an immediate stop to it.

@8:37 Yes, the comment section is utterly bizarre! And it goes nonstop. Comments appear every few minutes. There are some regulars, like SUTTERALL777 (sp?), who appear to be engaged in ongoing attempts to sabotage this site. He is CONSTANTLY giving out incorrect, anti-gay propaganda. I googled that one. As best I could determine he is an adult motivational speaker who may work for one of those anti-gay religious outfts like Narth. (Indeed, I learned about Narth through a very informed commenter on this site.) I've wondered if he's even figured out a way to run a spam bot in the comment section. Otherwise, there is something incredibly wrong with him--he's literally on there 24/7 at times. (Maybe he's secretly in love with Adam? He doeth seem to protest too much. LOL)

Others spew pure hatred at Adam or others, making Adam's very point in the video. One lately (just like bullies in the cases of those kids that killed themselves last year) has been telling all "fags" and "lesbos" to kill themselves. Then there are those seemingly endless religious discussions that crop up. Bizarre.

The only good thing about the haters' comments, is they pull for a lot of extremely informational comments or positive personal testimonials to counter them. Commenters are forever standing up to these bullies (or unfortunately feeding trolls)--which may be providing bullies with a reality check. And, letting lonely kids know there are a "ton of people out there just like you", just like Adam says.

Then there are those very special comments that thank Adam for givng hope, changing, even saving (1-2 a day) their lives. There's one comment from a day ago by someone who said they cried when they 1st saw it, & they watch it every night before they go to sleep. I think he is reaching a lot of lonely children & teens (and adults) who identify with his being different--by not only letting them know it's OK--that they are NOT alone, but by showing them how to handle it. People get that Adam's It Gets Better is for real. He means it. He's lived it. (Unlike a Gaga or Ke$sha or Kim Kardashian.) Because Adam is so authentic & open with information about himself (and such a good guy), people connect with him. They feel like they really KNOW him, personally (whether Adam intends/understands this or not). People are constantly thanking Adam for being himself. He is a gift to us from the universe. That's all he has to be--himself.

I truly believe Adam has saved lives through his It Gets Better video. He is a hero and role model to me. Love you, Adam

@9:11 You are so right. One of the reasons I love Adam's video is that he shows/tells people how to handle bullies without taking a victim-stance.

Am very upset my comment has disappeared.

Adam is so sweet and honest about everything. I hope someday he is on a regular weekly talk show, he is so articulate and smart and funny. He knows about alot of things and is so interesting. (not bad to look at either!)

Adam is very brave. It is sad that people are still so close minded. My heart goes out to Adam when I read mean things written about him. I am so proud of how he handles himself and is true to who he is. Many people could learn a lot from Adam and it would be a happier world!

Kentucky Fan, you are not alone! That has happened to me too, but it's usually my computer's fault, but not always. If I am writing a lengthy, well thought out post, I try to remember to highlight what I wrote and hit 'control c' to keep a copy available.

@daydreamin It actually got posted, cause I read through it after. Then, it disappeared. If I hit 'control c' it will save a copy? Like if I rt click will I have choices where to send it? My coputer illiteracy really does get in the way sometimes :(.

As long as Adam is gay, which will be forever, he will have to deal with this BS as it comes along. Thankfully, he's in a good place, happy and successful and can help those who are less so. This video says a lot and should give hope to others.

I had that happen to me once "the disappearing comment". It was printed.....I read it and then next time I went back to thread it was gone. I questioned my sanity.....then I typed it up again and posted.....that time it showed up and stayed put! A great mystery?????..........JAK

My comments disappear on occasion too. Admin says for some unknown and frustrating reason they sometimes go to the "Spam" folder where they find them.. They'll probably see it there or see your comment and it will magically reappear..They said it happens most often with longer comments..I'm looking forward to seeing it again. @kentucky Fan That happens to me sometimes when I type a long text. All I do when I lose my written text, I right click and then I select Undo from the menu to get my deleted text back. Hope this little tech. tip will help you out. <3

Thanks, guys. I am using all suggestions. Will try 1st to get it back. (Hope I can--made myself cry with that one LOL). My attempts at rewrites on paper? not so good.

This blog is a very good example of bullying. Some of us have no qualms about bullying Sauli and calling it our opinions. When is it going to get better for Sauli here, on an Adam site, where it should be safe for him?

Some of us have no qualms about bullying others regarding religious or political affiliations. Some of us are so into the blame game that threads can get pretty hateful and downright nasty very quickly. When is it going to get better here?

I, for one, hope it gets better today, right now, this minute.

:)

I agree Shiggles.

@ Shiggles

I guess that means no striking back when out of the blue someone slams you. Right? I promise to try but my natural instinct is to defend myself.
I will make a valiant attempt to "turn the other cheek"! Because I certainly don't like some of our tirade threads!

Shiggles said...

Anon @ 3:02

This is just what I was saying. Why, on this blog, should anyone "slam" anyone else so that person feels the need to retaliate? We say we're against bullying and then we do it ourselves. It's GOT to get better. Especially here.

Again :)

YouTube Heart Radio...WWFM ...I love this stripped version and I love the version when he went back on Idol and sang his face off...such a talent...I miss GNT and LP.....most of all I miss ADAM!

Wow, 1 million views on Adam's It Gets Better video. I notice nowadays anything Adam is counted numerically by the million/millions. :)

There is another It Gets Better video by a fiercely articulate young lady (don't know her name); I like the fact she strikes right at the heart of the problem...at childhood/adolescence stage. Frankly I have always felt most human behaviour problems stem from childhood/adolescence. I think all parents-to-be should be advised to attend parenting courses right from the start before/during their parenting commitment. Being a mother of two lovely very very grown-up children, looking back, I felt many times I had short-changed them, not materialistically but emotionally.

I used to write at other sites but now only at 24/7 due to the friends here.
At one of the sites, a comment really gave me the shivers. It stated very starkly that if it had not been for Adam, she wouldn't have been alive to write her comment...goodness. I really hope she is okay now.

Thank you very much Adam ! You are a good role model, you're encouraging & supportive. Congratulations on all million #s!
I always think about the young teens who took their lives. I get very angry when I think about bullies, I don't care what age the bully is, a bully is a bully, a monster! My child dreads going back to school for the fact that she has been bullied. Now it's the mean girls she has to deal with! I contacted a friend of mine who writes for a local paper & she has considered writing about bullying for the paper.
I have a ?. Why are gay people given such a hard time? Some people treat them as if they were murderers. Why? Some people have lost respect for humanity . Mwah.!! K

Thank you @Admin for restoring @Kentucky Fan´s comment. It was certainly worth reading as all of her comments. This is the 24/7 I love. <3

@ Mwah!!K

Gay people are given a hard time because of the Bible. Those few verses which are amplified and in some cases only fragments of ancient texts translated by men (a committee of sorts)over thousands of years!
Of course the Bible also says :

Thou shall not suffer a witch to live (Ex.22:18)

Happy shall be he that taketh and dashed thy little ones against the stones (Psa. 137:9)

Now kill all the boys and kill every woman who has slept with a man (Num. 31:17-18)

Denominations of Christianity pick and choose which verses of the Bible they want and suits their purpose and use the fragments literally.

We must give God severe migraines!

Oh, by the way, you with pierced ears and tattoos and trim your beards better take a look in Leviticus...it's a no-no!

Mwah!!K the Bible is filled with murderers.
Holy and unholy.

Sad but true. (My tag-Preacher's Daughter)

@Preacher's Daughter, thank you. I believe in love, that's all I need to know.

Then you are right on track...Love one another is a verse I choose to attempt to live by. God doesn't need our help with condemnation, punishment or judgement. He's in charge of that department. Not Westboro Baptist Church nor any other church or temple or mosque or cathedral.

My husband reads the Bible everyday & there isn't a judgemental bone in his body He is all about love, tolerance & acceptance. I don't read the Bible. Does that make me any less of a Christian than my husband? I don't think so & I don't think my Best Friend JESUS thinks so either. I have my own way of thinking/living now that has been my RE-awakening of what I am requested to do here on Earth ... LOVE ONE ANOTHER & CARE FOR EACH OTHER ... one of my favorite hymns that I used to sing in the choir & I try to practice everyday while I am still here!! I come here to ADAM 24/7 to spread my philosophy but I don't want to 'shove' it down anyone's throat. If I see something 'nasty' posted anywhere I try to counter by not answering the post directly but by posting something beautiful & meaningful about ADAM. I think he is a God-send to these other troubled LGBTQ kids ... JMO .. of course ... sorry for rambling ... Love 'n Light

@Admin Thank you so much for restoring my comments re Adam's It Gets Better Video.

@daydreaming, JAK, Lam my, Eva, and Glitzylady (Yay, the e-mail worked :)Thank you guys for your kindness.

Just checked out Adam's IGB video again, 2000 past 1 Million. But, VERY disturbing hate mongers on there right now: KillAllFagsAndLesbos still wanting "fags" & "lesbos" to kill themselves & tearing into a Brit gal with extremely fowl anti-female language when I left (maybe we could sick Urethra Franklin on him), assbumface2 (their own tag name says it all), & a particularly vile and frightening one--Grandinquisitor7. Per this last one's YouTube channel, he is a 46 year old right wing political & religious extremist whose comments on Adam's site verge on terroristic threatening. (This name sounds KuKluxKlan-like.) His views are extreme (no tolerance for anyone who is NOT just like him)and similar to those of the man who shot all those people in Norway--only the USA version. Perez Hilton is in charge of this YouTube. I wish he would set some rules, monitor it more carefully, & take the hate speech down. Because of people like these, you realize just how brave Adam is. The good news is there were some commenters thanking others for standing up for them against these bullies.

Lam my I've seen comments like that fequently on Adam's It Gets Better site and on Twitter with children, teens, and adults commenting that Adam has literally saved their lives. Amazing. And, many more who latch on to him for meaning in their life, who are lonely, or who dont have the best of families. I'm thinking of 1 15 yr. old that follows Glitzylady & me who has adopted Adam as his/her "Glamdad". Quite a burden for Adam's young shoulders. One of Adam's attractions is his maturity. Another, his kind heart.

I believe Adam's influence is vastly underestimated by the media & other corporate arenas, political world, & music industry. I have a feeling this is all about to change very soon, with Adam bursting on the scene again in a very big (and good) way.

And, all he has to do is be himself. :)

Do you think the kind of scary people you mentioned will actually carry out their threats? This idiom...Barking dogs don't bite...kind of tells me otherwise. If they actually want to carry out their vile acts, I doubt they need to sound it out, they'll probably scheme silently, and these silent ones are the reals.

I like this particular thing about Admin 24/7, restoring lost/disappeared comments. They did that for me too, appreciated it. Reciprocation is important, however insignificant it may appear to be. We give just a nod or smile to someone but the receiver may have gotten a lot.

Adam is a perfect role model. His ability to reach out and touch so many people is uncanny. Besides his huge talent, Adam's so smart, he gets it and people all over the world can respond to his message of hope. If you know Adam, you can't help but love him. Congrats Adam on your much deserved success - this is just the beginning!
