Avicii's "Lay Me Down" Video Is Missing Something Important (Hint: Adam Lambert)

Filed Under () by Adam Lambert on Friday, May 23, 2014

Posted at : Friday, May 23, 2014

When Adam Lambert first premiered “Lay Me Down”, the song he did with DJ Avicii, it was basically the club hit we all didn’t know we’d been waiting for. The fact that it’s the fifth of the singles released from Avicii’s True doesn’t do the song enough justice, unless Avicii was saving the best for last. Lambert provides all of the vocals for the song which, when combined with Avicii’s music, makes for an incredibly addicting track. For some reason, however, the music video for “Lay Me Down” was less of a music video than a concert video.
The video follows Avicii as he heads onstage to perform the song for an adoring crowd of concert goers as a show identified as “Live at Tele2 Arena”. The show is so good that the concert ends on a shot of one of the fans crying. Not that I blame her, considering they paired the song with smoke machines and bursts of flames. It’s as if the eargasm everyone was having was somehow an underreaction.
Why Avicii chose to film a concert instead of pairing the single with an outright video (like one that actually features Adam Lambert) isn’t immediately clear. Maybe by the fifth single on an album, you start running out of steam as far as elaborate videos go. However, pairing “Lay Me Down” with a live concert does force the viewer to focus on the song and their reaction to it more than they would have if they’d had to follow the plot of a video while they listened. Lambert might not appear at the concert, but his vocals are the heart and soul of the song and they match up perfectly with the smoke columns and shooting flames.
That particular show took an already good song and made it great, so we can’t blame Avicii for wanting to immortalize it as part of the music video. He’s in the habit of keeping his vocalists uncredited anyway, controversial though that decision might be. At least when you get up and start dancing around your room to the song, you won’t be missing much in the music video besides people doing the same thing.

That Adam's career is to the point of a nameless track singer to some overrated 22 year old DJ is truly appalling.

Anonymous said...

This is a stupid article. None of the vocal artists are featured in any of Avicii's videos. Let it the fuck go already BitterBerts

Anonymous said...

6:47, Your statement simply is not true. Avicii is huge world-wide. There is nothing degrading about recording a song with him. Probably plenty of singers would like the chance. Adam was lucky enough to be able to do it. It's a good thing, not a bad thing. Adam has had his name mentioned all over the place due to LMD. Adam's career is doing just fine, thank you. Frontman for Queen is nothing to sneeze at.

Anonymous said...

Avicii is a much more popular worldwide artist then Adam. He should be happy that he's on his record at all.

Avicii has over 5 million YouTube subscribers. Adam Lambert has less then 400K

Avicii's 'Wake Me Up' video has over 350 millions views! More then every single video on Adam's vevo channel combined.

Anonymous said...

Avicii just a DJ. How come he gets all credits for the songs on his album? Yep, may be one of the singers got some publicity. I think I made a big mistake to buy his album.

Anonymous said...

I love LMD and esp Adam's vocals. Adam said Avicii is a genius and I believe him. So glad Adam was part of this True Album.

@7:08PM "Wake Me Up" is great country song and everybody like it. I never heard about Aloe Blacc who sung this song and never will hear about him in the feature. Okay, may be I'm not big fan of country music. But this music video was simply amazing and classic. Avicii didn't spend any money on LMD but it'll get over 1,000,000 views by tomorrow.

Whoa! Beautiful uplifting dance music video. I can imagine Adam wailing all around the globe this New Year's Eve; this is an adrenalin-pumping song...even now I can feel my heart picking up speed. lol! Yes Adam is going to usher in 2015 with this celebratory LMD song this 31 Dec all around the globe.
Great job Avicii! Hip hip hooray! Yes Horsey is galloping wildly and freely across the plain. I like this LMD video very much. Like Adam, Avicii too is a handsome viking. lwl!

@Lam-my are you high? Does anybody from Avicii fans knows that this is Adam's voice in this cheap MV? Okay, may be few of them. So, yes, Avicii did a good job and fuck another singer.

Anonymous said...

@7:08PM I think LMD will have more than 350,000,000 views if Avicii will release this song as single. Do you think this is right that he will get all credits for this success?

Anonymous said...

All the views that LMD are getting (which is substantially less then his other videos) are due to fans of Avicii not Glamberts. No one knows or cares who's singing on it. It's EDM music not Pop. Avicii has over 5 million YouTube subscribers. More then 20 times what Adam has.

Anonymous said...

If LMD gets on the VH-1's top 20 voting list,(then makes it to whatever #),then Adam's name will be on there, and maybe Nile's,too.hope this song is a hit in the USA-maybe it will get on the top 20.That would be great!

One of my LMD-related poems:

Lay me down in darkness
Tell me what you see...
I see a handsome, generous man
Who sings for anybody
Be it at a teenager's party
A Queen extravaganza or meaningful charity
I like his never-give-up, never-give-in philosophy
And what about that immense energy...
Where does that spew from...
Perhaps a wild guess
His long-forgotten viking family lol!
Most likely it's genetics
His height and resonance chambers
From where he draws his powerful leggiero tenor
Like jets from a hot spring, he shoots them into the ether
I feel his moment of reckoning must soon be due
As he fervently plods along his arduous musical avenue

@7:08 PM @ Other concerned folks

Of course Avicii has that many Youtube hits; He has about 10 or 15 different artist singing on the album doesn't he? So common sense would tell you that if you multiplyed all the artist's fans including all of Adam's fans and Nile's fans; you are going to have many fan bases viewing; this is to Avicii's benefit when it comes to views on his Vevo channel. Adam is a solo artist; anyone in their right mind would not expect him to have as many. So those important facts should actually knock the sails out of your snide little remarks in light of that senerio.

Avicii is very fortunate to have an artist with Adam's talents. A He was quoted as saying that Adam and Nile's collabration is his favorite on the True album. Adam seems to be very thankful that Niles thought of him when he needed a singer to join him and Avicii for this wonderful project. So happy for Adam; this is his year; seems like all good things are happening to this very good and beautiful humble artist!

8:08 PM

You are wrong; many people know that it is Adam Lambert; especially his fans; and he is gaining more fans every day. There are many articles mentioning that it is Adam on vocals, and Nile's on guitar. Glamberts from many Countries are noting that a lot of DJ's are mentioning Adam and Nile also. Don't worry everyone wants to know who that sexy voice belongs to!!

Many International fans are reporting that the Lipton Tea commercials are getting a lot of Youtube play and Adam is being mention by fans as the singer. Adam's will also be obtaining financial gain as the vocalist and co-writer!! Win, win, win for the Glam one in every single way. Next, Queen and Adam Lambert will be putting the Icing on that great big Glambert Cake!!!

@8:43 PM

Why are you posting that old news on Adam Lambert's fan site. This is 2014; that took place four years ago when Monte was in Adam's band; and still his friend.
Seems kinda strange under current circumstances.

Anonymous said...

Beautiful song; Adam sounds so darn sexy. He seems to be picking up more fans in Countries where the single is being released!

Anonymous said...

Lots of Glamberts are still fans of Monte. Happy birthday to your twin daughters Monte!

Anonymous said...

Lam-my, I hear you! I just love this song too. To those that say he sounds so sexy; I do agree.

Anonymous said...

That article is actually pretty cool if you read it all the way thru.

Anonymous said...

Then why don't they go to his fan site and wish his children Happy Birthday? Just saying.

Anonymous said...

Those that wish, can also tweet Birthday wishes to Monte's personal twitter account for his daughter; if their real purpose is for him to get the message.

Anonymous said...

8:58
I like the cohesiveness and flow of your piece of writing with sound substantiation. Whenever I read a piece, anything at all, if I don't need to stop and start and try to reconnect the flow, that signals to me, a good piece of writing.
By the way, Nile is the background force, the sifu; he actually brought the whole thing together. I like his stylish guitar interjections in LMD, those short experienced pluckings of his well-sharpened guitar skills.

9:12.....Thank you and yes his sexy lower tenor accompanied by his, only God knows where they come from countertenor.

(Warning to others this is OT)I hope you will bear with me, but it is my only way to contact Lam-my.

Hi Lam-my just wanted to say I have just returned from a week in Singapore. We lived there for 2 years during the early 70 s with the NZ army. Were you then.
I just wanted to say how overwhelmed we were by the change.A lot of our old haunts were gone. But by some miracle our two houses were still there. One was in at 5 Sembong Rd in Sembawang the other an old Brit Army house in what is now Old Birdcage Walk.
We were very impressed with the train system and how clean etc. I was disappointed that all the old Markets were gone. We did go to Little India and China Town, but whether we didn't persevere enough I don't know but I didn't find any selling cheap underwear and bargains for the grandkids.
We stayed at the Carlton, I thought of you a lot and wondered where you lived, but with the husband in tow it wasn't a possibility to meet up. I'd love to know what part of Singapore do you live.

Yea Adam and Monte should bury the hatchet, make a comeback; but these things at times are a bit tricky like some residue of mistrust might still lurk. Unlike Tommy who never leaves Adam and I guess that's why Adam treasures that; as the saying goes...a bird in hand is worth two in a bush. Remember, Longineu too left but for a good reason. I like Adam's original band and that to a large extent constituted to the GNT success worldwide. I remember Adam, Monte and Longineu, gave a fantastic acoustic performance at our Singapore Pantages; they sort of baptised the stage being the first performance held there, 4-5 years ago; Broken Open never sounded so beautiful in the brand-new theatre and Longineu's acoustic solo bongo drums echoed in the surround theatre acoustics; Adam's voice enveloped the theatre with Monte's crisp guitar-play...3 artists at their prime. Can't remember if Tommy was there, it was a small affair; Adam's first visit to Singapore.

Hello Jadam
So good to hear from you and that you visited Singapore. Did you visit Adam Road? Probably not, it's a little out of the city centre. Yea the British, Australian, NZ and Indian armies formed the coalition forces and still lost to the Japanese; lwl! They were overwhelmed by the Japanese who surrounded Singapore. According to my Mom, the Japanese gave them hell for 3 years. She recounted a Japanese soldier slapped her across the face when she blocked them from hitting her brother, my uncle, using their rifle. Also my father had dysentery, hemorrhaging but no medicine nor doctor was available. I was not born then, I belong to the post-war baby-boomers era. Thank goodness. But I have no ill feelings against Japanese people; been to Tokyo, Osaka...QueenBert will be there soon; also Mt Fuji and Kyoto. I have been to Perth but not NZ. They say NZ is like heaven on earth, wow!
I think it's okay we didn't actually meet cuz my rather persistent phlegm problem might not be convenient for a day out etc. I live in the Holland Road area, close to Clementi area. By the way right across the road, from my condominium, the old World War II army barracks/camp is still functioning; your NZ army personnel will know the place I think.
Thanks Jadam for sharing your visit with me, virtually. Appreciate that a lot.
Leilani too visited Singapore; she went to Adam Road and sampled the food at the food-courts or hawker-centres, the cruder name. lol! Did you try chicken-rice especially the chilli? By the way, many Aussie/NZ solders were killed at the Adam Road WWII coalition army base and so it served as a burial ground as well. Many Australian/NZ war veterans visit Adam Road and recount, like what you did, about the old colonial houses still existing. Recently, I read an article by one of these visiting war veterans who pin-pointed the existing old house under which his buddy-soldier was buried.

I agree with 11:10 p.m. that Adam must had good reason for dropping Monte.I seen Monte perform on the GNT also he was good but he also showed that he knew he was good to me he hogged the stage as much as he could.Adam didn't loose anything with out Monte.

Anonymous said...

I am really confused about the album True. Did Avicii actually write any of the songs on that album or did he just produce them? If other artists sing the songs, do the instrumentation, write the music and the lyrics, then what is it Avicii does besides act as sound engineer? I honestly want to understand this phenomenon.

Anonymous said...

9:10 Obviously you aren't a Monte fan, or you would know that he doesn't have twin daughters; he has fraternal twins, a boy and a girl. Fool.

Anonymous said...

Adam doing fabulous vocals on LMD is only one accomplishment in his very full life. They are great vocals and it is a very good song. Doubt that article was fan generated prove it. Adam career is doing very well. He embarking on a once in a life time tour. If the nasties that come here who mostly are fans of others if there boy was doing this concert they be shouting from the roof tops. Because its Adam they jealously run everything down. The Queen concert will help Adam in many ways many good ways. Then he will have an album out. Stop comparing this hugely talented man to others he like no one else that has ever come out of idol or any other artist he in his own special league. The next few years will be good ones for Adam his kind if talent won't be denied and he made many friends last few years in the music business. Some of those friends are icons. Monte P. really did Adam dirty and hurt him badly by pushing him on here you are being very disrespectful. There nothing wrong with wishing his twins happy Birthday he will not see it here so what your reasoning. That needs to be done on his twitter or whatever. Think that was just an excuse to push MP .
You just also push his album on his own site very disrespectful to Adam fans. Like who you want don't push it down our throats. He hurt Adam and caused problems with album release why is that ok it was terrible. The real reason for the HNT success was Adam Lambert not MP or a drummer. I went to see Adam that's why I purchased the ticket.
Also why I am seeing Queen. I love Queen they been good to Adam. But, without Adam I would not gone with my health I going for Adam. Who will be well worth any effort. lam/ my love your posts as usual Rosé Pedal and you are my girls. Good Glamberts. That was GNT not HNT tour correction. Sue

My first thought too. LMD deserves a better video. It doesn't have to include Adam, but a video with a storyline, something along the line of disco. A heart wrenching video just like "Hey Brother" and "Wake Me Up" or a Kiss Ass Dance Video!

@Lammy- you can`t be serious? Adam (who usually is loyal to a fault, see TJR) eliminated that person out of his life for a reason.
I do not want to rehash the story again but everyone who supports that backstabber has lost the right to call themself a Glambert or even Adam fan.

People need to get over this. If anything, it is not in Adam's interests for fans to be posting negative crap about Avicii on sites showing or discussing this video. Adam is credited where it matters most - in the writing credits.

The beauty of this single is that Avicii has all the risk if it doesn't chart well and, if it does, Adam can pick up buzz for the vocals right before he releases his own single.

He is on the radar of radio DJ's, young EDM fans, older Queen/Rock fans and teen Glee fans. How can that be bad?

Very well said.
Perhaps this thread could be closed.

Anonymous said...

Personally, I would like Adam featured in the video; but Avicii can't do it in LMD unless he has featured previous singers in the released singles; to be consistent. Also, by featuring other singers, his True album/videos may appear like an assortment which he doesn't want, perhaps. Avicii wants his identity stamped on the album/videos; just like any other artist. They pay for the productions, which might require that he pays the singers to appear in the videos as well. I think there are a lot of details and protocol regarding the making of an artist's own music videos, we are not aware of. I'm sure Adam has been handsomely paid for his handsome voice and perhaps still gets a cut from further sales of LMD. Not going to worry over that, just love the song and Adam singing it.
There will be a spill-over effect from LMD onto Adam's own albums and also his new album...so I see nothing negative about Adam's involvement in Avicii's LMD. Also, the melody belongs mostly to Avicii and Nile so Avicii does deserve a lot of credit and Nile as well and Adam. lwl!

Lam-my

Anonymous said...

Adam was very lucky that Nile called adam in at the last minute to do some vocals for this track. Avicii had never even heard of adam. Be grateful adam is on the True album at all

Anonymous said...

Admin is inviting all this trash by the posting and the headline. It worked.

Anonymous said...

LMD has writing credits for LMD along with Nile and Avicii, so he does get paid a percentage of sales. There is no downside to working with Avicii. He's huge right now. I'm giving the official LMD spins whenever I can.

As to the frequent negativity on this site (not always from trolls), I think we need to remember that we are not talking amongst ourselves in our living rooms or on our private phone lines. Our comments are out there for all to see, reflecting on Adam's fanbase as a whole. It's a shame that this is what newcomers to this site too often see. Those of us who visit other sites know that it is possible to share fun, interesting, informative conversations AND even have differences of opinion at times, without mean-ness or hate-speak. It can be done.

A few corrections are in order:
Luck has nothing to do with Nile calling Adam, Nile's been onboard the Adam train a long time and KNOWS his value as singer/performer/deliverer! And high time Avicii heard of Adam - who better to introduce Adam and his vocals to Avicii than Nile, since he was already working with Avicii and had previously witnessed Adam's talents up close with Shady etc.

Finally it's Avicii who should be very grateful that both Nile and Adam are on True, cause they are TRUE LIVE talents, read: they are able to do LIVE everything recorded in studio and sound even better-er!

After looking at the LMD Official video several times; and backing off of my knee jerk first response I confess that I have from time to time when I think that Adam is Lambert is being disrespected. Well I finally started thinking rationally.

I now think that this video is a most wonderful and inovative result. Many other video's have lots of noise and strangers acting out their parts with soap star mentalilty around themselves.

In the LMD Video; One is left with a very serious looking avicii who is showing his independence as an artist being seen with his people; taking care of business on and off stage. He is marching to the beat of Adam Lamberts sexy voice front and center. All the young people in the Avicii concert are getting excited by this beautiful voice with Nile and Avicii surrounding the Glam Ones vocals that even beautiful white horses are running to those wild and sexy vocals. who wants to see a group of people who are doing mundane things; when we have a remarkable video with all the attention drawn to the macnificent one in a billion voice! We don't hear Nile and Adam complaining; so why should we. This is Avicii's project and he is free to present the cd, that he said was his favorite on his True album, any way that he wishes. I would like to compliment Avicii for having the great insight to get Niles to work with him; and I compliment Niles, an Icon and one of best guitarist around along with Brian May; to obtain the fabulous Adam Lambert to join you in the song writing for LMD; and I compliment our golden throated man Adam Lambert for accepting this wonderful opportunity to lead him another step towards the stairway, to that Iconic fame that Paula, former Idol judge, said that Adam he would be someday!!

I dont like avicii anymore. These comments just bash him and praise avicii. I dont get it. NOBODY ELSE could have made the song as epic as adam did and you people are just haters. HATERS. DO U UNDERSTAND? Shit man...just FUCK OFF if you have nothing good or sensible to say.
