10 Things to Know About Adam Lambert
Filed Under (article,Others ) by Admin on
Posted at : Saturday, July 31, 2010
juneauxena over at "onthemeaningofadamlambert" wrote this amazing summary about Adam. Must read!

1. He is one of the best singers in rock/popular music, combining a gorgeous tone with sensitive phrasing and expression. For an example of sheer vocal chops, listen to this performance in Brigadoon when he was 22. Meatloaf praises Adam as the greatest singer since Janis Joplin. In introducing Adam at the 2010 KISS concert, Boston radio DJ Matt Siegel said “Every once in a great while…and we’re talking generations, somebody explodes on the national stage and changes everything.”
2. He is a complete entertainer – singer, dancer, actor – with a commanding stage presence and charisma that makes his live performances electrifying. Check out this performance of Lady Gaga-penned Fever. In the American Idol finale performance with Queen and fellow contestant Kris Allen, Adam owned the stage.
3. He is already enjoying significant commercial success. Adam’s For Your Entertainment debuted in November 2009 as the top-selling U.S. CD, with nearly 200,000 units sold in the first week, and surpassing one million in worldwide sales this July. His single “Whataya Want From Me” reached #10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and #2 on Adult Pop. He is the first artist in 2010 to have two #1 VH1 Top 20 music videos (“Whataya Want From Me” and “If I Had You”). Barely one year after Idol, he is selling out his first headlining tour, to more than 70 cities in the U.S. and overseas.
4. He spans musical genres, from Broadway and Rat Pack to hard rock and electropop, and can inhabit iconic songs with utter conviction. His audacious song choices on American Idol blew away many observers, like this male sports writer.
5. He appeals to an extraordinary range of fans across generational, political, ethnic and national boundaries. He is a synthesizer and unifying artist, whose music draws from multiple sources and attracts listeners with diverse tastes through his singularly beautiful voice and emotional connection to each song. These fan interviews after his Nashville concert exemplify the diversity and enthusiasm of his fans. He is said to have the largest web site of any RCA/Sony artist and has inspired a book that documents the nature of his effect on a community of fans.
6. He is a boundary-smashing sex symbol, appealing to women and men, straight, gay and bisexual. He may be the first openly gay popular artist whom women unabashedly adore anyway and consider one of the sexiest men alive. Here’s a fascinating essay, “Complex Hotness: The Meanings of Adam Lambert.” Female fans swooned over this acoustic, androgynous version of Broken Open, a song he co-wrote.
7. He is a style icon. Fans and style-makers pay close attention to his fashion choices and beauty. He is often the subject of print and online fashion and beauty shoots. Here are images from a series shot by Robert Sebree. This Jed Root series is stunning too. Fans also respond to artists he admires, such as Muse, Goldfrapp and Miike Snow, often sending their sales soaring.
8. He is articulate and intelligent. In interview after interview, he is disarmingly open, self-aware, thoughtful and funny. He displays considerable business savvy and is deeply engaged in every aspect of his recordings and shows, from creative design to production. Here’s his interview on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
9. He is considerate, polite and humble. As a competitor on American Idol, he was one of the few who unfailingly thanked the band and backup singers after every performance. Fellow Idol contestants credited Adam with helping them. Even after landing on numerous “most beautiful” and “most sexy” lists, he professes surprise and says he was an “ugly duckling” who achieves his beguiling appearance through “smoke and mirrors.” Despite his meteoric rise, he retains a feeling of innocence, wonder and gratitude.
10. He is extremely loyal to his family, friends and fans. He is close to his parents and generous towards his friends, many of whom are talented, struggling artists. He often thanks his fans, stands up for them at times, and has created an intense connection with them through web chats, Twitter and special videos. In this live chat session for fans who contributed to his DonorsChoose.org campaign, which has raised over $300,000 for arts in the public schools, he says “If you have success, you should spread it around.”

Adam Lambert's 'If I Had You' now at #4 on VH1 Countdown
Filed Under (article, charts,If I Had You,news ) by Admin on
Posted at : Saturday, July 31, 2010

With the Glam Nation Tour heading back to Adam Lambert's hometown of San Diego, we are in the midst of quite a busy week for Adam. Even with all of that, though, the fans still managed to spend enough time voting for "If I Had You" to land at #4 on the VH1 Top 20 Countdown this week.
Even though the song fell two spots this week, there were a number of different factors behind the change. VH1's official site was experiencing a bit of trouble this week, and Adam fans (as passionate as they are) also need some casual supporters to visit the website and vote.
Adam's fans have single-handedly helped to make his newest song a hit, as VH1 gives it increased TV exposure to go along with the radio airplay supplemented by all of the requests.
Did you vote for Adam Lambert in the past week?

Adam's version of E! True Hollywood Story will start filming tonight in San Diego! This is an American documentary series that deals with famous Hollywood celebrities, movies, TV shows and well-known public figures. Adam really has hit the big time with this! The reason is because only "relevant" and "important" has been featured in these shows. Some renown celebrities that have been featured in this show are Jack Nicholson, Keanu Reeves, Britney Spears, Will Smith, Oprah Winfrey etc. So this is such a huge honor for Adam!

Adam Lambert gets high marks on musical report card
Filed Under (article, tour news ) by Admin on
Posted at : Friday, July 30, 2010

When Adam Lambert performed for hometown fans during the “American Idol” tour stop at the San Diego Sports Arena last July, he was the shiniest cog in the “Idol” machine. One year later, the 2009 “Idol” runner-up and Mt. Carmel High School graduate is the main event. He is back in town with songs on the radio, a media controversy on his résumé and a headlining tour that includes tonight’s sold-out show at Copley Symphony Hall.
The King of “Glambert” Nation was not available for an audience with the press, but with the help of some experts (and his proud father), here is a progress report on his post-“Idol” pop-culture reign.
ON THE CHARTS
Eight months after its release, Lambert’s debut album, “For Your Entertainment,” is still on Billboard magazine’s Top 200 album chart. It peaked at No. 3 and has sold nearly 700,000 copies in the U.S. so far. The single “Whataya Want From Me” peaked at No. 10 on the magazine’s Hot 100 chart, and his new single, “If I Had You,” is at No. 69 and rising.
Lambert’s sales aren’t in the same universe as, say, Carrie Underwood’s first post-“Idol” album, “Some Hearts,” which has sold 7 million copies since 2005. But with album sales at a record low, no one is selling 7 million copies of anything anymore. The debut album from Season 7 winner David Cook has sold 1.3 million copies since 2008, and 2009 winner Kris Allen has sold less than 400,000 copies of last year’s self-titled disc.
“I think Adam has done pretty well. His album went gold (selling more than 500,000 copies), which in this day and age is not bad at all,” said Billboard senior editor Ann Donahue. “From the beginning, he was obviously a showman. And now that he’s on tour, people are interested in seeing what he’s going to do.”
GRADE: B
ON THE ROAD
It has been a dismal summer-concert season, but while big tours such as Rihanna’s “Last Girl on Earth” extravaganza and Sarah McLachlan’s Lilith Fair have canceled some dates due to low ticket sales, the 28-year-old Lambert has added more than two dozen dates to his theatrical Glam Nation Tour since tickets went on sale in late May. In addition to tonight’s concert at the 2,252-seat Copley Symphony Hall, Lambert sold out two performances at San Francisco’s 2,250-seat Warfield Theatre and two shows at New York’s 2,100-seat Nokia Theatre.
“He’s got a very visual show, which always helps a live artist,” said Gary Bongiovanni, editor in chief and publisher of Pollstar, a concert-industry trade magazine. “His business has been very respectable. And as a relatively young act without a huge track record, if he can sell that many tickets a year after he was on the show, he has some real promise.”
GRADE: A
IN THE HOT SEAT
The same week Lambert’s album was released, controversy hit the fan. After the openly gay singer got a little too raunchy with some male band members during a performance at the American Music Awards broadcast, viewers complained, ABC canceled his appearance on “Good Morning America,” and Lambert was the subject of some intense media grilling.
But he never backed down or apologized, and judging by his subsequent invitations to appear on “The View,” “The Oprah Winfrey Show ,” “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” (not to mention his well-received “American Idol” mentoring gig), no one seems to be holding much of a media grudge.
“It was a little bit of a rude awakening for him,” said Adam’s father, Eber Lambert, who lives in South Park. “I don’t think he regretted it, but he was surprised by it. Lady Gaga was at the AMAs and other people he’s impressed by were there, and he got kind of amped up and he overdid it a little. I think he realizes that.”
This year, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation nominated Lambert for Outstanding Music Artist in its annual GLAAD Media Awards. Lambert lost to Lady Gaga, but he is such a big fan, he probably didn’t mind much. And GLAAD invited him to perform during the awards show in Los Angeles.
GRADE: B+
IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Lambert’s galvanizing “Idol” performances landed him on the cover of Entertainment Weekly while the show was still on the air and on the cover of Rolling Stone shortly thereafter, leaving his post-”Idol” profile nowhere to go but down. If by down you mean headlining your own tour, getting airplay for your third single and wearing all the eyeliner and glitter your record company can buy.
“I think Adam is doing quite well for himself in the post-‘Idol’ world,” said Michael Slezak, senior writer with Entertainment Weekly. “He is who he is and he doesn’t compromise on that. He gets to be as provocative and goofy as he wants to be, and that’s a success in its own right.”
And whether he is charming the ladies of “The View” or encouraging fans to support art in public schools through his “Glam a Classroom” program, Lambert appears to have kept his feet on the ground and his heart in the right place. Which could be the greatest success of all.
“When all this started, I worried about the press and the feedback and how he would hold up with the scrutiny and constant barrage of opinions, but he’s handled it really well,” said Eber Lambert, who visited with his oldest son after a performance in Costa Mesa this week. “He’s been gracious and articulate and grateful to the people who support him. I’ve been really proud that aside from the music and his performances, he’s demonstrated that he’s a good guy.”
GRADE: An A from the pros and an A+ from Dad, who knows which achievements really count.

What do we want from Adam Lambert?

San Diegan is bringing his show to his hometown, and we have some requests

He is one of San Diego’s biggest reality-TV success stories, so when “American Idol” runner-up Adam Lambert brings his first headlining tour to town Friday, he and his sold-out “Glam Nation Tour” will get a welcome fit for a local hero. Weeping maidens and all.
A showman from the top of his impeccably styled head to the tips of his platform shoes, the Mt. Carmel High School graduate knows how to make any stage his own. But since his speed-dialing fans helped him get to where he is today, here are some fan-girl thoughts on how he can turn Copley Symphony Hall into Glam Nation Central. Boas are not optional.
Costumes! Costumes! Costumes! From the dapper “Ring of Fire” suit to the Brother From Another (Funkier) Planet ensemble he wore when performing with KISS, Lambert was the best-dressed “American Idol” ever. So now that he has the onstage runway to himself, we expect sartorial splendor, and lots of it. Black is Lambert’s go-to color, which provides a nice backdrop for feathers, glitter, leather and maybe a tasteful pair of wings. We want to see it all, preferably all at the same time. Save room for Guyliner!
Some healthy ‘Idol’ worship: With no disrespect to Lambert’s solo album (“For Your Entertainment”), his galvanizing “Idol” performances are still as fresh as that tattoo he just got in Atlanta. So if he could indulge us with return visits to “Mad World,” “Whole Lotta Love” and — dare we dream? — “A Change Is Gonna Come,” we promise not to wave our lighters too close to his feathers.
A bit of hometown conversation: He may look like the Mad Hatter’s stylish younger brother, but according to reports from the road, Lambert is channeling his inner Oprah on stage, telling audiences to be themselves and put a little love in their hearts. But for his first hometown performance since last year’s “Idol” tour, here’s hoping Adam spices up the script with some San Diego improvisation. Shout-outs to friends, family and Mt. Carmel High School are welcome. And a trip down musical-theater memory lane would be fabulous. The dance-mix possibilities are endless.
Give a tweet: Whether he is previewing his concert wardrobe (“Not rockin heels on this tour but I AM featuring a top hat.”) or giving us updates on his crazy/beautiful life (“In a cab at mcdonalds after being chased down the street by drag queens”), Lambert is a busy Twitter presence. Here’s hoping he helps San Diego claim our rightful place in his Twittersphere by immortalizing tomorrow’s show in 140 glowing characters. Which we will share with 500 of our closest friends.
Live a little: One complaint about Lambert’s show is that there isn’t enough of it. Previous sets on the tour have run just over an hour, so let’s keep our fingers crossed that a relaxed hometown vibe will encourage him to get a little crazy. Throw in a surprise cover version! Revisit “Wicked”! Give “Play That Funky Music” another shot! That can’t hurt. But as long as Lambert’s concert plans come with killer high notes and fringe attached, his show will be our treat.

Six things you may not know about Adam Lambert
Filed Under (article, interview ) by Admin on
Posted at : Wednesday, July 28, 2010

Six things you may not know about Adam Lambert
1. Lambert's female following started early. A group of Mormon girls in the choir with Lambert at Mt. Carmel High so idolized him, they were like a virtual harem. Yet while he was the star of chorus and drama, Lambert was not a very good math student. "Adam wasn't born with the math gene," his father, Eber Lambert, said.
2. Between musical theater jobs in 2003, Lambert worked at a cosmetics counter in an L.A. department store. His makeup and people skills were so admired, the cosmetics company offered him a $50,000-a-year job as a cosmetics demonstrator/trainer, but he turned it down to follow his performance dreams. A year later, he hit a career low when his father declined to lend him money to record an album and they had a brief falling-out. He eventually found work as a blond-haired football player in the execrable "Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical" in Lake Tahoe. The show was so bad, Lambert wouldn't let anyone in his family come see it.
3. When Lambert called his father to say he was quitting the musical "Wicked" to take part in "American Idol" last year, his father was shocked. He'd never heard of the Fox series and couldn't understand why his son would quit his job "to go on a game show."
4. Lambert is known for his rich vocabulary and articulate interviews, even though he never attended college. His father attributes Adam's speaking skills to being a voracious reader (particularly during the "Idol" tour) and his "attraction to people he can have good conversations with."
5. To give back to the public schools where he first trained in voice and theater, Lambert created a charity through donorschoose.org that has raised more than $315,000 to date for school arts programs.
6. When his hairstylist shaved clean a three-inch square of hair on one side of Lambert's head last month ("it was air-conditioning because some of these cities' concert halls are really hot"), the resulting fan furor (dubbed "Hairgate") was written up on the Web sites for People magazine and E and MTV networks. Relax, everyone; the hair has since grown back.

Adam Lambert is known for his love of "playing dress-up," and on his first solo concert trek, this summer's Glam Nation Tour, he's been able to indulge his not-so-inner diva like never before, taking the stage resplendent in peacocky plumage, T. Rex top hats, venus-in-fur coats, leather, lace...and, as he did Tuesday, July 27 at his first of two homecoming shows in Southern California, bindhis. Lots and lots of bindhis. Yep, Gwen Stefani ain't got nothing on Glambert.
Glamming it up is obviously a crucial process of Adam's concert tour experience, so I was tickled glittery-pink to get a chance to interview the Glamerican Idol while he was actually undergoing his transformation in his makeup chair (a Reality Rocks--and Adam Lambert--first!). I mean, what better setting for his pre-show interview? There, in his dressing room at Costa Mesa's Pacific Coast Amphitheatre, I watched as--under the expert hands of "America's Next Top model" makeup guri Sutan--Adam gradually morphed from his natural, minimally made-up day look to the kohl-eyed rhinestone-rocker-by-night we all know and love.
And, being a superb multi-tasker, Adam also managed to discuss his ever-evolving persona, his pre-performance rituals, Glam Nation audience behavior, and his upcoming second album (out in spring 2011!!), all while getting cosmetically spackled.
Watch now, and prepare to be dazzled:

Adam Lambert's second single "Whataya Want From Me" had been on the Top of the "Idol" track chart for such a long time (although it seems like the #1 spot is always going back and forth between Adam and Carrie Underwood.) But now it looks like WWFM will retire now and IIHY takes over to fight Carrie!

Adam Lambert, If I Had You (29,000, +10, 152,000)

Dilana Robichaux talks about Adam Lambert

Dilana is an artist from a show called "Rock star Supernova" and she did "Ring of Fire". Adam performed her version of ROF on American idol. He gave her a shout out at a later day on an interview.

Q - Adam Lambert did a version of “Ring of Fire” on “American Idol” that was very similar to yours from “Rock Star SuperNova.” What did you think of that?
A - It was very flattering. He gave me a shout out in a little video blog that he did. It was really cool that I was able to inspire a singer, an artist, as amazing as Adam Lambert. I really think that guy is so talented. He in my eyes is really phenomenal. I hate to compare him to one of my idols, Freddie Mercury, but I think he’s up there. He could be someone as extravagant and amazing as Freddie if he focuses and keeps his feet on the ground. It was just a huge flatter for me that he did that.
Thanks ZZ for the tip!

Kelly Rowland: I will forever be in love with Adam Lambert

Kelly Rowland had so many nice things to say about Adam when she was a guest for the NRJ Radio station. Apparently, the guests get to choose the songs they want to play and Kelly picked "Whataya Want From Me" by Adam! This is what she said to introduce his song.
“I have to start off with the first one. Now, Adam Lambert and I met in Australia, in Sydney; and I just found his energy so beautiful and so so genuine and when I heard him sing live at this little bar that we went to, I was just absolutely in love and I will forever be in love with Adam Lambert. Here is Whataya Want From Me but this is the unplugged by NRJ."

Adam Lambert hangs at #28 on airplay chart
Filed Under (charts,If I Had You ) by Admin on
Posted at : Sunday, July 25, 2010

Another week passes, and Adam Lambert is still at at #28 in the newest Top 40 chart data released by Mediabase. The good news in all of this? Even if there is no change in the rankings for "If I Had You", there is in terms of spin count -- the "American Idol" singer is now at 1,749, an increase of 237 from the week before.
In case the newest data isn't a substantial enough sign, Adam's part of the chart has become increasingly competitive thanks to new songs by Nicki Minaj, B.o.B., and Flo Rida that are all rising fairly fast. The next song that Lambert is feasibly pass is either Ne-Yo's "Beautiful Monster" or Justin Bieber's "Somebody To Love".
